Packers Inside Linebacker Position, Is This A Dying Position In The NFL?

NFL Inside Linebackers - What is happening in the NFL?

One thing about life and sports is - NOTHING STAYS THE SAME!!

Baseball - specialization - closers(9th inning) - Holds(8th inning) - starters(only pitching 6-7 innings)

Basketball - 3 pointers & dunking (not many passes!)

Golf - driving the ball 300-400 yards

NFL - more passing, one back in the back field, Fullbacks disappearing, and now inside linebackers disappearing, so...............................

The Packer players for inside linebackers on the 90 man rosters.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
Jordan Tripp - 6'3" - 235 lbs. - Montana - Year 4
Jake Ryan - 6'2" - 240 lbs. - Michigan - Year 3
Blake Martinez - 6'2' - 247 lbs. - Stanford - Year 2
Joe Thomas - 6'1" - 227 lbs. - S, Carolina St. - Year 3
Derrick Matthews - 6'0" - 232 lbs. - Houston - Year 1
Cody Helman - 6'2" - 229 lbs. - Wasburn - Rookie
Josh Letullgasenoa - 6'1" - 252 lbs. - Cal Poly - Rookie
David Talley - 6'1" - 236 lbs. - Grand Valley St. - Rookie

The issue - more teams, against 4-5 wide receiver sets, are playing safeties at inside linebacker, so, out of this group maybe only 3 make the team!

Top 3?

Jake Ryan - 6'2" - 240 lbs. - Michigan - Year 3
Still a very young player that we hope has a big up-side.  Does not stand out as a superior athlete, but does seem to be adequate against the run.  Would expect him to start at the inside spot, but will need to show he can become more of a playmaker!

Recent info:

  • Played in 14 games with five starts, opening at BLB for the final five contests. Registered 47 tackles (32 solo) and a fumble recovery on defense and six tackles on special teams.
  • Started both postseason games and recorded 10 tackles (seven solo).
  • Made the first start of his career at Detroit in Week 13, leading the team with nine tackles (eight solo) and registering his first career fumble recovery.
  • Including the postseason, tallied six or more tackles in six of the seven games he started.
  • Selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 129 overall selection. Was the 27th player the Packers have drafted from the University of Michigan and the first since LB John Anderson in 1978 (first round, 26th overall). Joins Anderson as the only Michigan LBs ever drafted by Green Bay.

Blake Martinez - 6'2' - 247 lbs. - Stanford - Year 2
Another young linebacker that needs to make a step.  A little more athletic than Jake Ryan, and that would seem to allow him to be on the field more on passing downs.  But again, is he a game changer?  This year may tell us that!

Joe Thomas - 6'1" - 227 lbs. - S, Carolina St. - Year 3
Early in summer camp, Thomas seems to be the go to LB for the Pack.  An interesting background, Thomas matriculating out of South Carolina State.  Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough!  We hope this is the case.  Year 3 for Thomas may be the year he takes control, and it would be nice to have an inside linebacker that would be there for 5-6 years!!!  This is when you miss the steady play of an AJ Hawk type of player!!!

As you can see by the stats, last year was a big jump from 2015 to 2016!  Guess what, we NEED another jump!  I am "dreaming" of an impact linebacker FLYING around the field!!!!

Players to Make a Push!

Jordan Tripp - 6'3" - 235 lbs. - Montana - Year 4
Here we may have a sleeper.  Jordan has been around:

From Miami, to Jacksonville, to Seattle, and now Green Bay. The Montana grad has an opportunity.  And, we need a surprise!

Derrick Matthews - 6'0" - 232 lbs. - Houston - Year 1
Has been on the Packer Practice squad since November of 2016.  Another chance, and that is what the NFL is all about, opportunity!

Cody Helman - 6'2" - 229 lbs. - Wasburn - Rookie
You want a long shot, how about a young man out of Washburn!  Washburn, located in Topeka, Kansas.  School Motto, "Not For Ourselves Alone". 6,600 students.  An my favorite, the school nickname, "The Ichabods"!  You need to watch the ICHABOD!

Josh Letullgasenoa - 6'1" - 252 lbs. - Cal Poly - Rookie
And, my favorite last name? Just click here and watch the video!!!
I like this kid!!!
Letullgasenoa (La-tool-gas-a-no-a)

David Talley - 6'1" - 236 lbs. - Grand Valley St. - Rookie
And yes, another long shot, this kid from Grand Valley State!  Such alumni as: Brandon Barnes, OL of the Colts, Cameron Bradfield, OL for the Jaguars, Brandon Carr, CB for the Cowboys, and many more alums!  Well, not a lot od Hall of Famers, but maybe??????

Boy, wouldn't it be nice to have an All Pro Inside Linebacker!

Packer Linebackers For 2017

The linebacker position?  What do you think of, when the word linebacker is mentioned?

1 - Enforcer

To me, one, or two of the linebackers on your team should be half crazy(Dick Butkus).

Come running out on the field foaming at the mouth(Ray Nietzsche).

With eyes that look like, a scary movie!(Mike Singletary)

If a lunatic fan runs on the field, he levels him!(Mike Curtis)

2 - Leadership

Chris Gizzi carrying flat after Sept 11th!

Von Miller saluting!

Clay Matthews leading the intensity!

What linebackers are on the Packer 90 man roster?

Our #1 Stud?

Clay Matthews - 6'3" - 255 lbs. - USC - Year 9
Clay has has to memorable moments! Click here - Clay Matthews Pitch Perfect
OK, I digress - if you have seen that video or watched "Pitch Perfect" you know Clay should stick to football!  But, year 9, the guy needs to make plans!  I see the same great "motor" and energy in his play, BUT, I also see the little nagging injuries!  Matthews is a race horse out on the field and needs to be handled with care.  His window is closing, this year may be his LAST big year!

Nick Perry - 6'3" - 265 lbs. - USC - Year 6
Had a nice season & the Packers have chosen to keep Perry in their plans!
With the window for Matthews closing, the time for Perry is now!  He must be a playmaker, a leader. and bring a little swagger!  Last year, Perry showed signs, and this year, time to roll!

Next man/men up?

With Julius Peppers and Datone Jones leaving, it is time for Elliot & Mackrell!

Jayronne Elliot - 6'3 ' - 255 lbs. - Toledo - Year 4
Making the team as an undrafted free agent & playing special teams & meaning snaps, Elliot needs to become a player in crunch time!

Kyler Fackrell - 6'5" - 245 lbs. - Utah State - Year 2
The second year player needs to make the next step!  For a linebacker, that means smarter and stronger!  Emphasize STRONGER!  When one rushes against offensive tackles, BIG PEOPLE, one MUST be strong!!!  What will happen!

Vince Biegel - 6'3" - 246 lbs. - Wisconsin - Rookie
Rookies!  Rookies from Wisconsin!  What do we need?  A rookie that will bring some energy to the field!!! Has nice size & speed!  He compares well with his buddy at Wisconsin - a guy named Watt!(He has a pretty good brother)

Biegel (6-3 1/4, 246) had a strong Scouting Combine with a 4.67 in the 40, 4.30 in the shuttle, 6.92 in the three-cone drill and 21 reps on the bench. For comparison, Watt (6-4 1/2, 252) ran his 40 in 4.69, posted a Combine-best 4.13 in the shuttle, a 6.79 in the three-cone and put up 21 reps.

Wouldn't it be nice if we got the good one!

Reggie Gilbert - 6'3" - 261 lbs. - Arizona - Year 1

Signed by Green Bay as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016…Started 47 of 57 games played as a Wildcat…

Attended Fairfax High School in Laveen, Ariz. …Sustained a foot injury that hindered his senior season…Registered 58 tackles, 13 sacks and two forced fumbles as a junior…Played on both sides of the ball as a defensive end and tight end…Selected All-West Region by PrepStar and Preseason All-Arizona Defense by 247football.com…Also lettered three years in track…His sister, Vicki Baugh, played for the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock…

Jonathan Calvin - 6'3" - 266 lbs. - Wesley - Year 2

The Packers signed LB Johnathan Calvin on May 5, 2017.
Calvin, 23, played in 26 games with 11 starts at Mississippi State after transferring from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He saw action in all 13 games with 10 starts as a senior in 2016, leading the team with 55 tackles (23 solo)
So, what do you see?  I see, 1 - one of the best all-time linebackers in Packer history.  2 - a linebacker that may be entering a new level of play!  3 - a group linebackers fighting for a future starting job!  And, 4 - NO REAL GREAT THREAT.  At this time, this group is average a best.

Next up, inside linebackers!

Packer Defense - The 2017 Defensive Line!

The philosophy in my football world has always been, "build from the line out!"  The offensive & defensive line is key in my football world!  So, where to we stand in 2017?

Here are the players:

DE - Dean Lowry
DT - Mike Daniels
DT - Letroy Guion
DT - Kenny Clark
DT - Ricky Jean Francois
DT - Brian Price
DT - Christian Ringo
DT - Izaah Lunsford
DT - Montravious Adams

First look? Not impressive.  But there are some possible players on the move!

On The Move

DE - Dean Lowry - 6'6" - 296 lbs. - Northwestern - Year 2
(Check out Dean's last interview - click here)
The young man seems ready, and points to last years Seattle game as a game that was a boost to his confidence.  Some tidbits:

  • Selected by Green Bay with the second of two fourth-round choices (No. 137 overall), the second of two compensatory choices awarded to the team in the 2016 NFL Draft.
  • Became the first defensive end from Northwestern to be drafted since DE Corey Wootton was selected by the Chicago Bears in 2010 (fourth round, No. 109 overall). Also became the first player from Northwestern drafted by Green Bay since DT James Anderson in 1973 (14th round).
  • Played in 48 games with 33 starts for the Wildcats and registered 134 tackles (83 solo), including 31½ tackles for a loss, 12½ sacks, three interceptions (one returned for a TD), 21 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.
  • Earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2015 after posting 46 tackles (27 solo), including 13½ tackles for a loss (second on the team), three sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and seven passes defensed.
  • Set a school single-game record and tied the sixth-best mark in conference history with six tackles for a loss in Northwestern’s win at Nebraska in 2015.
  • Was an honorable mention All-Big Ten choice as a junior in ’14 after recording 41 tackles (25 solo), including eight tackles for a loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and eight passes defensed.
  • Played in 11 games with nine starts as a sophomore in ’13 and recorded seven tackles for a loss (tied for second on the team) and 4½ sacks (third).
  • Was one of four true freshmen to play for the Wildcats in 2012 and was named to ESPN.com’s Big Ten All-Freshman team.
  • Earned all-state recognition at Rockford (Ill.) Boylan High School, where he was named the Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10) Defensive MVP as a senior in 2011 after registering 65 tackles, including 21 tackles for a loss, and 10 sacks.
  • Was a member of back-to-back state championship teams in 2010 and 2011 as Boylan finished with a perfect 14-0 mark in both of those seasons.
  • Earned his degree in economics.

DT - Kenny Clark - 6'3" - 314 lbs. - UCLA - Year 2
(check out Kenny's last interview - click here)
Will only be 22 in October, so as a defensive lineman goes, he is still a growing boy!  And, the last have of the season, came on strong!  And, a little high school info:

Was named the CIF Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2012 at Wilmer Amina Carter High School in Rialto, Calif., posting 71 tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles and a fumble recovery to help his team finish 12-1…Was an All-West Region selection by SuperPrep and was rated a four-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com…As a junior, registered 31 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss and 8½ sacks…In addition to DT, also saw time at T, G and C on offense…Also lettered three years in wrestling, winning a CIF title as a senior when he defeated future UCLA teammate Alex Redmond

Love the wrestling part - it has to help in the line of scrimmage battles!  I expect a BIG year!!

DT - Montravious Adams - 6'4" - 304 lbs.  Auburn - Rookie
Of all the draft picks, this one intrigues me the most!  Word is, has the tools, BUT, at time took off a play or two.  Hope the motivation at this level will turn Montravious into a player!  Some notes from his senior season:

2016 |  All-America Second Team (AP, AFCA, CBS Sports) ... All-SEC first team (AP) ... All-SEC second team (coaches, Phil Steele, Athlon) … Rotary Lombardi Award semifinalist … 36 career starts … 151 career tackles … five tackles vs. Clemson … 11-yard sack vs. Texas A&M and three QB hurries … two TFL, six tackles vs. LSU … blocked a ULM field goal and had a sack and two tackles vs. ULM … recorded two fumble recoveries at Mississippi State, scoring a 13-yard TD on one … five tackles, a sack, two TFL, two QB hurries vs. Arkansas … blocked an Ole Miss PAT and also had four tackles … six tackles, 1.5 sacks at Georgia … 7-yard interception vs. Alabama A&M … four tackles and forced an Alabama fumble … team captain … SEC defensive lineman of week (Arkansas) … ESPN mid-season All-America … Preseason: Bronko Nagurski, Outland, Rotary Lombardi, Senior Bowl watch lists … all-SEC second team (Lindy’s, Phil Steele, SEC coaches, SEC media), fourth team (Athlon) … Reese’s Senior Bowl ... ESPN All-Star Football Challenge ... SEC Academic Honor Roll

I hope my gut is right - maybe a sleeper!

Old Faithful

DT - Mike Daniels - 6'0" - 310 lbs. - Iowa - Year 6
The LEADER.  This is the heart & soul of the defensive line!  He leaders by both words & example!  As a back-up All Pro, his peers have seen his talent.  In interviews you can feel the passion!  He wants a Super Bowl Ring!  A little High School Info:

High school: Lettered three times as both a DL and RB at Highland Regional High School in Blackwood, N.J., serving as a two-time team captain and recording 222 tackles and 27 sacks in his varsity career…Earned first-team all-conference honors as a senior in 2006 after recording 97 tackles and 12 sacks, and running for 1,029 yards and 12 TDs on offense…Posted 84 tackles and nine sacks as a junior in 2005, also gaining 844 yards and scoring seven TDs on offense…Lettered four years in track and field and three times in wrestling

Lettered in track & field and wrestling - you know I like that stuff!  Says is older sister, retired from the Air Force, as a BIG influence!

We WILL see another BIG year from BIG MIKE!

Who Are These Guys

DT - Ricky Jean Francois - 6'3" - 313 lbs. - LSU - Year 9
This maybe another good pick up for Ted T.  Has experience to help the younger guys & has helped other team inside!  Maybe replace Letroy who continues to screw up!

Jean Francois (zhan fran-SWAH) was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round (244th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University. After four seasons with the 49ers (2009-12), he played two years with the Indianapolis Colts (2013-14) and spent the past two seasons with the Washington Redskins (2015-16). For his career, Jean Francois has played in 109 games with 35 starts during the regular season, appearing in all 16 contests in six of his eight seasons. He has recorded 236 tackles (128 solo), 12 sacks, 10 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Jean Francois has seen action in 11 postseason contests with two starts, registering 17 tackles (nine solo), 1.5 sacks and a pass defensed. He will wear No. 95 for the Packers.

May be an answer?

DT - Brian Price - 6'3" - 318 lbs. - Texas-San Antonio - Year 1
A long shot!
Signed by Green Bay as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016…Played three seasons at Texas San Antonio on the defensive line, starting 13 of 31 contests played…

Starting just 13 of 31 games for Texas San Antonio concerns me!

DT - Christian Ringo - 6'1" - 298 lbs. - Loiusiana-Lafeyette - Year 2
Played a little last year and that means something.  A tidbit:

Played in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Classic in Mobile, Ala. …A four-year starter, he also earned first-team all-metro honors as a junior…Lettered three years in track, participating in the shot put, as well as two years in baseball and one in soccer…

Did you see the last part, played soccer, hope he wasn't 6'1" - 298 lbs!

DT - Izaah Lunsford - 6'3" - 310 lbs. - Bowling Green - Rookie
Another long shot!

Forget Him

DT - Letroy Guion - 6'4" - 322 - Florida State - Year 10
Tired of him!  Cut him!

So, come on you guys - Lowry & Clark!  Keep leading Daniels!  And we need one or two surprises!
Jean Francois & Adams?

Sunday, July 16, 2017

Before we look at the 90 man roster and our defensive players, let us look at the past few years & concerns:

Concern #1 - Injuries
I did not bother going over each game the past 6-7 years, so what does memory tell me?  Key player number 1 - Clay Matthews:
2016 - 12 games
2015 - 16 games
2014 - 16 games
2013 - 11 games
2012 - 12 games
2011 - 15 games

Even when Clay is healthy, he seems to be nicked up.  And, last year was the defensive backs, linebackers, the years before, Matthews had to go inside, defensive line & drug issues for Guion.  In some ways, the Coach Capers playing many players is good.  Can the Packers stay healthy in 2017?

Concern #2 - Personnel issues
Ted's record of drafting defensive studs in not great, we have a couple, but it would be nice to have one a year, look at the past few years, number one draft picks:

2017 - CB - Kevin King (we will see)
2016 - DT - Kenny Clark (not yet)
2015 - CB - Damarious Randall (no yet)
2014 - S - Ha Ha Clinton-Dixx (may be the Best pick the past 7 years)
2013 - DT - Datone Jones (No longer on team)
2012 - LB - Nick Perry (not bad, but not All Pro)
2011 - OL - Derrick Sherrod (lat time we drafted offense #1 one & a bust)

As you can see, no future hall of famers.

Concern #3 - The Capers System
If you go to a Packer game, every down looks like a Chinese Fire Drill!  Lot's of subs!  A lot of sets of of the 3-4 defense.  The defensive linemen, are all over the place! If you look at the present roster, there are 9 defensive linemen!  And, of the 9, one is listed as a Defensive End.  Many of the defensive ends drafted are turned into linebackers.  The linebackers(do not stay healthy) and inside linebacker has not be steady since AJ Hawk left us!  And, the defensive backs, wow, all over the place!  As you may see, not a big Capers fan & Ted Thompson has not helped!

Concern #4 - End of game Break Downs!
Especially in the playoffs, the past few years have been difficult!!
Last Games of the Season
2016 - Loss to Falcons - 21-44
2015 - Loss to Cardinals - 20-26
2014 - Loss to Seahawks - 22-28 OT
2013 - Loss to 49ers - 20-23
2012 - Loss to 49ers - 31-45
2011 - Loss to Giants - 20-37
2010 - Super Bowl Champs!

Defense!!!!

WE NEED A DEFENSE!!!!

Packer Roster 2017 - The Offensive Line - The Engine of The Packer Offense

What is the most import part of ANY NFL offense?  First. sorry, it is the QB!  BUT, a VERY close second is the teams offensive line.  The Packer Offensive Line has lost two great guards - Sitton & Lang the past two years - are the new players up to the job?

Here are the 15 offensive line hopefuls:

David Bakhtiari - 6'4" - 310 lbs. - Colorado - Year 5
Brian Bulaga - 6'5" - 314 lbs. - Iowa - Year 8
Kyle Murphy - 6'6" - 305 lbs. - Stanford - Year 2
Jason Spriggs - 6'6" - 301 lbs. - Indiana - Year 2
Adam Pankey - 6'5" - 313 lbs. - West Virginia - Rookie
Robert Leff - 6'5" - 302 lbs. - Auburn - Rookie
Lane Taylor - 6'3" - 324 lbs. - Oklahoma State - Year 5
Don Barclay - 6'4" - 305 - West Virginia - Year 6
Jahri Evans - 6'4" - 318 lbs. - Bloomsburg - Year 12
Justin McGray - 6'3" - 317 lbs. - Central Florida - Year 1
Lucas Patrick - 6'3" - 313 lbs. - Duke - Year 1
Geoff Gray - 6'5" - 315 lbs. - Manitoba - Rookie
Thomas Evans - 6'3" - 305 lbs. - Richmond - Rookie
Kofi Amichia - 6'3" - 304 lbs. - South Florida - Rookie
Corey Linsley - 6'3" - 301 lbs. - Ohio State - Year 4

That is 15 players (BIG PLAYERS!), we need at least 7-8 on the final 53 & a couple on the practice squad.  I like what I see and we may see a few surprises as we work our way the the final 53!!!

As mentioned earlier we have 4 of the 5 last years starters returning

Center - Corey Linsley - 6'3" - 301 lbs. - Ohio State - Year 4
Linsley, was a starter since year one and as it seems has that trust with Rodgers that makes the play calling & snap counts work!  That is VERY important!  The 4th year player out of Ohio State looks like a leader that will keep the offensive line in check!  Of course, I look at other background & here is a few things I love:

Lettered all four years in track, where he was the regional and league champion and a state medalist in the shot put (top throw of 63’-1½” as a senior)…Also threw the discus, with a top throw of 191’-2” as a senior…Community involvement: Participated in an NFL Play 60 event in Appleton, Wis., in November 2014…While he was at Ohio State, was active with The 2nd and 7 Foundation, which promotes reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need…Residence: Boardman, Ohio.

Guard - Lane Taylor - 6'3" - 324 lbs. - Oklahoma State - Year 5
Last year we lost a starting guard, a GOOD starting guard, BUT Lane Taylor seemed to jump in there and keep the Packer Offense rolling!  That is always a offensive line concern!  Playing together with the other linemen, and keeping AR in an upright position!  Lane, a job well done.  My gut says that he will have an even better year in 2017!  A few tidbits about Taylor:

Given name Lane Dominick Taylor...Born in Arlington, Texas…He and his wife, Kasey, have two children…High school: Lettered two years in football and four years in track at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas…Earned Texas 5A honorable mention all-state honors from AP as a senior…Community involvement: Was part of the United Way’s annual Hometown Huddle project in 2014, helping to build a new playground in Clintonville, Wis. …Participated in the Green Bay Packers Golf Invitational in Kohler, Wis. …Visited hospitals in the Stillwater area while he was in college…Residence: Stillwater, Okla.

Tackle - Brian Bulaga - 6'5" - 314 lbs. - Iowa - Year 8
Brian has been a mainstay for 8 years!   At right tackle, has the second most important job protecting the right edge for Aaron & has proven himself the past 8 seasons.  Not flashy, not many big guys are, but is solid!  A few Bulaga Bits:

Also played DE, LB and TE…As a TE, posted 35 career receptions for 665 yards (19.0 avg.) and 10 TDs, plus three two-point conversions…Also lettered one year each in baseball and basketball…Community involvement: Participated in the Green Bay Packers Golf Invitational in Kohler, Wis. …Helped coach kids at the annual Junior Power Pack football clinic…Also supported the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer with an autograph signing and attended the local Families of Children With Cancer holiday party…Participated in the Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon…In college, participated in an effort to help flood victims in Cedar Rapids, Iowa…Residence: Bradenton, Fla.

Tackle - David Bakhtiari - 6'4" - 310 lbs. - Colorado - Year 5
Left Tackles.  Every great offense needs a great left tackle & we have one.  Protecting the quarterbacks blind side!  You get the stud pass rushers, you must be BIG and ATHLETIC! And, it helps to be good looking with great hair!  This is for my Packer Buddy Phil!

OK, David has great hair, and is our offensive answer to Clay Matthews!  But, better yet, he has started since his rookie year and has been a SOLID left tackle!!  A few more notes:

Oldest brother, Eric, played linebacker for the Tennessee Titans (2009) and San Francisco 49ers (2012)…Another older brother, Andrew, played defensive end at the University of San Diego…Appeared in the movie Pitch Perfect 2 last offseason with four of his teammates…High school: Earned All-Western Catholic Athletic League, All-San Mateo County and all-metro honors as a senior at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif. …His senior season marked his first year as a starter in football at any level…Helped his team win the WCAL championship and advance to the state semifinals…Was honored by the Bay Area News Group as a member of the 2008 Cream of the Crop team among seniors, ranking No. 8 out of the 25 players from northern California selected on college potential from a survey of college coaches…Also lettered in lacrosse as a sophomore and as a junior, winning the Lock Down Award as the team’s top hitter…Community involvement: Created the Fund A Dream scholarship at his high school…Attended a pizza party for the PALS program…Signed autographs at the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer in exchange for donations…Visited homeless shelters and nursing homes while he was in college…Residence: Burlingame, Calif.

OK, David, keep the hair and keep Aaron safe!!!!

Now, who will step in this year at the other guard spot?  Here we go:

Jahri Evans - 6'4" - 318 lbs. - Bloomsburg - Year 12
This guy gets my vote!  One of the quiet pick ups over the summer.  And, even though he has 12 years under his belt, I think he has a few years left in the tank!  And, the Packer Buddies had a chance to meet Jahri at a Philadelphia Soul game on Bloomsburg night!
Left to right-Jim, Bill, Jahri, Terry(our Bloomsburg Hall of Famer!)

Expect good things from Jahri Evans!

Don Barclay - 6'4" - 305 - West Virginia - Year 6
Barclay has been the major back up lineman for years and I'm sure will be given a chance at guard.  He has taken a lot of heat for his play, but it is very difficult to jump in and play any of the linemen positions when injuries pop up.  I do think this year will be very difficult for Barclay, because of all the young talent!!  My prediction is............ thank you for your time, but Bye Bye.

The next group of possible 53 man roster players:

Kyle Murphy - 6'6" - 305 lbs. - Stanford - Year 2
Has the size, has the smarts, and is fairly athletic.  The key, do we have a player to back up Bakhtiari at left tackle?  Right tackle should not be an issue!  I think the battle between Murphy & Spriggs is one to watch!!!  Some Murphy background:

Participated in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and received the Glenn Davis Award, given annually to a player on the West team at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl who best epitomizes the U.S. Army’s high standards of excellence in community service, education and athletic excellence...Was a Sea View League shot put champion in his only year in track and field…Played volleyball for two years.
His brother, Kevin, played at Harvard from 2008-11 and with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012-13…Was involved with Read Across America in college and also visited a children’s hospital in Long Beach…Worked two internships in college, the first with the San Jose Earthquakes in sales and marketing after his freshman year and then as a financial analyst with Bank of America/Merrill Lynch following his junior year…Residence: San Clemente, Calif.

So, Kyle definitley has the smarts & some interesting athletic background!  Now compete!

Jason Spriggs - 6'6" - 301 lbs. - Indiana - Year 2
As mentioned above, the battle of Murphy & Spriggs is worth watching!  Maybe a wrestling match of the 50 yard line would be good?  Spriggs was drafter higher, round 2 versus round 6 for Murphy.  So maybe that is the answer?  More background:

Played offensive tackle, tight end, defensive end and long snapper during his time at Concord High School (Elkhart, Ind.)…Named Indiana Class 5A all-state (defensive line) by The Associated Press and Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Top 50 (offensive line) in 2011…Was a first-team Elkhart Truth selection as an offensive lineman in 2011 and as a defensive lineman in 2010…Served as a team captain and was named Concord’s most valuable offensive lineman (2011) and defensive lineman (2010 and 2011)…Earned IFCA Junior all-state honors…Selected all-conference as an offensive and defensive lineman in both 2010 and 2011…Started for three years and recorded 58 tackles, seven sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, three passes broken up and three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown…Also lettered four years in both basketball and lacrosse and two years in track and field.

Kofi Amichia - 6'3" - 304 lbs. - South Florida - Rookie
Again the Packers usually keep draft choices, so Amichia has the inside track.  Some rookie stats:

2016: American Athletic Conference First-Team selection… started all 13 games at left tackle… has started 26 consecutive games…helped the Gulf Coast Offense set school records with 77 touchdowns, 47 rushing touchdowns (second in the FBS), 3,714 rushing yards and 6,650 yards of total offense, while ranking in the top 20 in the nation in sacks allowed (1.15)…helped the Bulls extend their nation-leading streak of 30-plus point games to 17… paved the way for USF to finish the regular season ranked fifth nationally in rushing offense (291.8 ypg), eighth in scoring offense (43.6 ppg) and ninth in total offense (515.1 jpg).

Earned a spot in the all-state all-star game as a senior playing at right tackle ... a first-team all-county selection ... posted 46 pancake blocks ... also spent time on defense and recorded a sack ... helped McEachern to a 10-2 record and the second round of the state playoffs ... tabbed a preseason all-state selection ... named one of the top players in Georgia by ESPN High School ... posted 42 pancake blocks as a junior ... allowed only one sack, while starting all 12 games ... helped the Indians to a 10-2 record, the second round of the state playoffs and the region 4AAAAA championship ... invited to Nike's The Opening ... also lettered in track and field and basketball.

Would have loved to have seen Kofi on the basketball court!!!  And, he still must have some moves according to the Wes Hodkiewicz article:

After playing left tackle the past two years, Amichia put himself on the map with an impressive pro day in March, running a 4.99-second time in the 40-yard dash with 32 reps on the bench press and a 33½-inch vertical.
He believes that athleticism translates to his play on the offensive line, enabling him to stand toe-to-toe with defensive lineman and get a hat on linebackers downfield.
“You have to be able to recover when guys do spin moves, juke moves,” Amichia said. “Because defensive linemen, people think just because they’re big they can’t move (but) you still have to be able to recover with everything they do and match their intensity with everything.

This is were it gets difficult!  These are the long shots below & maybe one Practice Squad spots?  You have 4 rookies & 2 that served on the practice squad.  Some good size, but is there skill here to crack the 53?  Remember, 7-9 possible, make the 53 man roster.

Let the BBBB      ---------------------    Big Boy Battles Begin!

Justin McGray - 6'3" - 317 lbs. - Central Florida - Year 1

Lucas Patrick - 6'3" - 313 lbs. - Duke - Year 1

Geoff Gray - 6'5" - 315 lbs. - Manitoba - Rookie

Thomas Evans - 6'3" - 305 lbs. - Richmond - Rookie

Adam Pankey - 6'5" - 313 lbs. - West Virginia - Rookie

Robert Leff - 6'5" - 302 lbs. - Auburn - Rookie

Packers Roster - The Quarterbacks - 25 Years of Great Quarterbacking!

Brett Favre hands off to Aaron Rodgers - MANY teams would give up everything for that!!!

It wasn't a pretty hand off, but for Packer Fans it was the correct play call!

And, the Packer Quarterbacks for 2017:

Aaron Rodgers - 6'2" - 225 - California - Year 13

Brett Hundley - 6'3" - 226 - UCLA - Year 3

Joe Callahan - 6'1" - 216 - Wesley - Year 2

Taysom Hill - 6'2" - 221 - Brigham Young - Rookie

This list may seem obvious, but there are some BIG decisions!  Of course, not Aaron, but, Hundley, the back up is in year three & many teams would love to have him.  Callahan was a surprise let year & his battle with Hill may be VERY important!  We all know Aaron will play only 2-3 series in the pre-season so, Hundley, Callahan & Hill will get a BIG look!

Aaron Rodgers - 6'2" - 225 - California - Year 13
We have seen some amazing things from Mr. Rodgers!  He has had some great quotes!  He has dated movie stars.  Has a great golf game!  And, has even kicked but on game shows Jeopardy & $100,000 Pyramid!  And ONE Super Bowl!!!!  We NEED MORE!!

Career Stats:
My favorite Rodgers quote the summer of 2017, "I'm on the back nine of my career!"

Enough said, we have the best, not the other 52 need to help!!

Brett Hundley - 6'3" - 226 - UCLA - Year 3
Seems to be the perfect back up, but I think, one more year and he is out of here.  He looks like great insurance, but if Brett has a great pre-season may make him great trade bait?  Risky, yes!  Possible, yes - and why not - I would take a quality running back, pass rusher, linebacker?  Or, a high draft pick!  Trades in the NFL are not very common, but later in season, if someone is desperate - Maybe!

Career Stats:
2015 - 0 Completions - 0 Attempts - 0 Yards - 0 TD's
2016 - 2 Completions - 10 Attempts - 17 Yards - 0 TD's

Not much to go on, and that is really OK for Packer fans!

Joe Callahan - 6'1" - 216 - Wesley - Year 2
Not many QB's out of Wesley!  But, the Packers liked something about this guy!  He is a smart kid, has some poise, and diamonds are found in a lot of places!  Let's wait & see how he looks compared to Hundley?

Callahan, a 6-foot-1, 216-pound rookie, was originally signed by Green Bay as an undrafted rookie out of Wesley College on May 6. After being released by the Packers on Oct. 13, he was claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints. Callahan was released by the Saints on Oct. 22 and claimed by the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 24, but was released on Nov. 29. In 2015, he became the first NCAA Division III quarterback to throw for 5,000 yards in a season, earning the Gagliardi Trophy, the highest award in Division III football.

Taysom Hill - 6'2" - 221 - Brigham Young - Rookie
Another unknown quantity.  The pre-season is boring for some fans, but I love to see what the new faces look like!  What will Taysom do?

Started 33 of 37 games played during his career, completing 609 of 1,047 passes (58.2 pct.) for 6,929 yards, 43 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. He registered 2,815 rushing yards (most among BYU QBs) on 534 attempts (5.3 avg.) with 32 touchdowns.

Again, not much to go on, but we will see!

My advice again - chuck the football Aaron!

Next, The Running Backs, Who Will Make The Final 53 in 2017?

Running Backs, Oh My.

2016 was a crazy year, at one point we did not have any!  Lacy, FAT & INJURED!  What could have been!  Seemed like a good person, but, loved for more than football & was injured all the time!  Starks, was always there, but just got a year older & a step slower.  All the run backs, fizzled.  Brought in Michaels, he flopped.  So, convert Ty Montgomery to a running back - happens every day one the NFL right?  NOT!

So, here we go in 2017.  We have one running back with experience, a converted running back!  Let me VENT a little here --------

THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!

Now, that I got that out of my system, the running backs:

Ty Montgomery - 6'0" - 216 lbs. - Stanford - Year 3

Aaron Jones - 5'10" - 2018 lbs. - Tex-El Paso - Rookie

Devante Mays - 5'10" - 230 lbs. - Utah State - Rookie

Jamaal Williams - 6'0" - 213 lbs - Brigham Young - Rookie

Kalif Phillips - 5'9" - 218 lbs. - Charlotte - Rookie

William Stanback - 6'0" - 231 lbs. - Virginia Union - Rookie

In case, you do not notice, that is a lot of rookies!

THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!

Sorry, venting again!  So, what do we have?  I know, we have youth!

THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!

Here I go again, I apologize!

William Stanback - 6'0" - 231 lbs. - Virginia Union - Rookie

In 2016, he started six of 10 games played for Virginia Union, earning All-CIAA first-team honors after rushing for 1,299 yards and 15 TDs on 207 carries (6.3 avg.) while also recording 165 yards on 12 receptions (13.8 avg.) with three TDs.

Kalif Phillips - 5'9" - 218 lbs. - Charlotte - Rookie
owns school career records for rushing yards (4,020), touchdowns (43), rushing touchdowns (41) and 100-yard rushing games (15). His 4,020 rushing yards ranked No. 13 among active FBS players at the end of the 2016 season. He was named honorable mention All-Conference USA as a senior and second-team All-Conference USA as a junior.

Jamaal Williams - 6'0" - 213 lbs - Brigham Young - Rookie

  • Named to Doak Walker Award watch list

Devante Mays - 5'10" - 230 lbs. - Utah State - Rookie
Played in six games, making two starts… Rushed for a career-high 208 yards on 18 carries and tied his career-high with three touchdowns on runs of 18, 18 and 66 yards in the season-opener against Weber State (9/1)… His 66-yard touchdown run was a career-long… Those 208 rushing yards are tied for the 19th-most in a single-game in school history… Had eight carries for 24 yards and one reception for eight yards at USC (9/10) before suffering an injury… Played in just four games and carried the ball just 11 times for 27 yards the rest of the season.

Aaron Jones - 5'10" - 2018 lbs. - Tex-El Paso - Rookie
UTEP’s all-time leading rusher (4,114 yards) and ranks seventh on the Conference USA all-time rushing list … broke John Harvey’s 28-year old record after rushing for a program single-season best 1,773 yards (fifth best single-season performance in C-USA history) … set program record by rushing for 100-plus yards in 17 career games … owns program’s longest rushing play (91-yard rushing score at Texas Tech) … 33 rushing touchdowns during career ranks second in program history behind Harvey (42 touchdowns) … registered a program-best 200-plus yards rushing in five career games ... 658 career rush attempts rank third behind Howard Jackson (667) and Harvey (678) … only third Miner ever to produce multiple 1,000-yard seasons … 240 career points (40 total touchdowns) ranks second on non-kickers list behind Harvey (306 points), while ranking third behind Reagan Schneider (287 points) on the program’s overall career points list … 4,760 career all-purpose yards rank no. 2 behind Jackson (6,153 all-purpose yards) … registered 100-plus yards during a single half 13 times during career … recorded 100-plus yards during a single quarter six times during career … produced multiple touchdowns in 14 career games.

Ty Montgomery - 6'0" - 216 lbs. - Stanford - Year 3
Now is without doubt the #1 running back!  He has the smarts, the athletic ability & the leadership skills, now is he an NFL running back yjat can play on a Super Bowl team?

2015 - 6 games - 3  rushes for 14 yards & 0 TD's / 15 receptions 136 yards &  2 TD's
2016 - 15 games - 77  rushes for 457 yards & 3 TD's / 44 receptions 348 yards & 0 TD's

  • Played in six games with three starts as a rookie in 2015 before an ankle injury that he sustained in Week 6 vs. San Diego would sideline him for the remainder of the season.
  • Caught 15 passes for 136 yards (9.1 avg.) and two TDs and posted a 31.1-yard average on seven kickoff returns. Also rushed for 14 yards on three carries (4.7 avg.) last season.
  • Was drafted by Green Bay in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 94 overall selection, the first WR from Stanford to be picked by the Packers since James Lofton in 1978 (first round, No. 6 overall).

What do you see?  I see, UH-OH.  Ted Thompson?  What was Ted doing?  Why not find, one, just one, free agent with a little experience?  What can we hope for?

Ty Montgomery will run for 1000 yards, and catch 25-30 passes for another 500 yards & say 8-10 TD's.  And, like I have be saying, let Aaron chuck the football!

The Packers - 90 Man Roster - The Tight Ends

My gut says, IF, they stay healthy, Aaron Rodgers will LOVE the choices at Tight End in 2017!!!

Here are the Packer Tight Ends:

Martellus Bennett

Lance Kendricks

Richard Rodgers

Beau Sandland

Aaron Peck

First, the Underdogs:

Aaron Peck - 6'2" - 239 lbs - Fresno State - Rookie
Career in college - 93 receptions for 1211 yards and 6 TD's. Missed his 2105 year due to injury.  It looks like the Packers will look at Peck as a fullback also.  He has fair speed at 4.68 in the 40 and has some athletic ability as a basketball player in high school.

Beau Sandland - 6'5" - 252 lbs. - Montana State - Year 2
Was drafted in round 7 by the Carolina Panthers.  Was first team, All Big Sky Conference (my favorite conference name) Transferred from Miami, Florida to Montana State and season year had 37 receptions for 632 yards and 9 TD's (the 9 TD's look good)

These two tight ends will fight it out for a practice squad spot.

Richard Rodgers - 6'4" - 257 lbs - California - Year 4
This will be a critical year for Richard!  Jared Cook was not signed, but, Packers go out and sign Bennett & Kendricks, so, as of now I see Rodgers as third team & playing for special team time!
His Packer career stats:

2014 - 16 games - 30 receptions for 271 yards & 2 TD's
2015 - 16 games - 58 receptions for 510 yards & 8 TD's
2016 - 16 games - 20 receptions for 225yards & 2 TD's

Has had some big plays in his short career (remember the Hail Mary against Detroit), but, may be fighting to get on the field in 2017!

If, I has Coach McCarthy, in 2017, I would be throwing the ball at a 70% pass & 30% run ratio.  First, you know - Aaron!  And next, our next two tight ends pick ups!

Lance Kendicks - 6'3" - 250 lbs - Wisconsin - Year 7
2011 - 15 games - 28 receptions for 352 yards & 2 TD's
2012 - 16 games - 42 receptions for 519 yards & 2 TD's
2013 - 15 games - 32 receptions for 258 yards & 5 TD's
2014 - 16 games - 27 receptions for 259 yards & 4 TD's
2015 - 15 games - 25 receptions for 245 yards & 4 TD's
2016 - 16 games - 50 receptions for 499 yards & 0 TD's

Kendicks suffered through some ugly quarterback play, now he has Aaron - Yahoo!  Plus, a Wisconsin graduate coming home!  Good Stuff!

Martellus Bennett - 6'6" - 275 lbs. - Texas A&M - Year 10
First, have you seen Martellus do any TV lately?  He still is a BIRD!  I'm glad he is older, but I think the Packers need a little "personality!"  Listening to Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy interviews is like watching paint dry!

Second, the guy is 6'6" and plays with a little edginess!  We also need some of that!  And, fresh from a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots!!!  So, come on Marcellus!

Bennett Career Numbers:
2008 - 16 games - 55 receptions for 701 yards & 4 TD's
2009 - 14 games - 16 receptions for 159 yards & 0 TD's
2010 - 16 games - 33 receptions for 260 yards & 0 TD's
2011 - 14 games - 17 receptions for 144 yards & 0 TD's
2012 - 16 games - 55 receptions for 626 yards & 5 TD's
2013 - 16 games - 65 receptions for 759 yards & 5 TD's
2014 - 16 games - 90 receptions for 916 yards & 6 TD's
2015 - 11 games - 53 receptions for 439 yards & 3 TD's
2016 - 16 games - 50 receptions for 499 yards & 7 TD's

The numbers are interesting, early on, behind Jason Witten at Dallas, not much!  Then, with the Giants & Bears, he had some opportunities.  Last year, in New England, after Gronk went down, he became the man.  Well, how about "The Man" for Aaron!!

Back to the beginning of my post, McCarthy, throw the football!!  To Jordy, Montgomery out of the backfield, Adams down the sideline, Kendricks over the middle, Bennett deep down the middle splitting the zone, Cobb on a short screen, "C'mon Man" air it out.  I would need a relieve pitcher, because Rodgers' arm would be sore!

Air it Out Baby!!!!

17 Days Till Packers Begin the 2017 Season - Wide Receivers

Analyze!  Watch!  Read!  Calculate!  Salaries!  Leadership!  Athletes!  Gamer!  And, your gut!

The Packers have 12 receivers on the 90 man roster!  Last year, they kept 7!  Here is the list:

1 - Jordy Nelson
2 - Davonte Adams
3 - Randall Cobb
4 - Geronimo Allison
5 - Jeff Janis
6 - Trevor Davis
7 - Malachi Dupre
8 - DeAngelo Yancey
9 - Max McCaffrey
10 - Michael Clarke
11 - Montay Crockett
12 - Colby Pearson

I will tackle this competition with three categories:

1 - Starters - Jordy Nelson, Davonte Adams, Randal Cobb
2 - In The Fight - Jeff Janis, Geronimo Allison, Trevor Davis, Malachi Dupre, & DeAngelo Yancey
3 - Long Shots - Max McCaffrey, Michael Clarke, Montay Crockett, & Colby Pearson

First, the "Long Shots"!

Max McCaffrey - 6'2" - 200 lbs - Duke - Year 2
Was on the Practice Squad last year.  Has a great bloodline - father Ed, played 13 years in the NFL & brother Christian, just drafted as one of the top running backs.  So, the kid has been around football!
High school, of course football, but lettered in basketball & track & field - like this!  At Duke, lettered 4 season & started 38 of 53 games.  Career caught 117 passes for 1341 yards & 12 TD's.  Academic All ACC.  Not great career stats, but Duke was not a big passing machine.  Max was their leading receiver his senior year!

Michael Clarke - 6'6" - 217 lbs. - Marshall - Year Rookie
Did you see this, 6'6" interesting!  Basketball player that transferred to Marshall from St. Francis.  Dis not play football since his freshman year in high school!  A project!!!!  One year a Marshall 37 receptions for 632 yards & 5 TD's. I repeat, a project!

Monday Crockett - 6'0" - 184 lbs - Georgia Southern - Year Rookie
18 starts in 47 games for Georgia S, ran back kick & punts.  Maybe a look at special teams.  Lettered in football & track & field in high school.

Colby Pearson - 6'0" - 194 lbs. - Brigham Young - Year Rookie
Career - 76 receptions for 864 yards and 8 TD's.  Not spectacular career stats. Played football, basketball & baseball in high school.  Likes fishing & the outdoors (wonder if he has ever gone ice fishing?}

There they are, the long shots!

Next, the "In The Fight!"

This group in VERY interesting!

Jeff Janis - 6'3" - 219 lbs. - Saginaw Valley St - Year 4
Special teams have saved Janis!  He is alway on the Packer fans radar!  BIG & FAST!  At first I think the Packer fans were thinking the next Jordy Nelson, but Aaron has never had faith in him & the problem seems to be he does not always run precise patterns, or the right pattern!  This may be a BIG training camp for Janis!!!!

Stats:
2014 - 3 games - 2 receptions - 16 yards  - 0 TD's
2015 - 16 games - 2 receptions - 79 yards - 0 TD's
2016 - 16 games - 11 receptions - 93 yards - 1 TD's

Geronimo Allison - 6'3" - 202 lbs. - Illinois - Year 2
Un-drafted rookie, on th practice squad last year, then moved up to the 53 man roster & turned some heads.  Has the speed and size to threaten starters and could be a 2017 surprise! Watch this guy! In high school played football, basketball & baseball.   And, LOVE the name - GERONIMO!!!!!!!

2016 - 10 games - 12 receptions - 202 yards - 2 TD's

Trevor Davis - 6'1" - 188 lbs. - California - Year 2
The SPEED guy. Did not show a lot on the field last year & did not have a chance to show the speed & athletic ability that was why he was drafted.  Played football & track & field in high school.  Like what I say in the long jump 23-6, triple jump & sprint events (100 m - 10.72 &200 m - 22.15!  Needs a great training camp!

2016 - 11 games - 3 receptions - 24 yards - 1 TD

Malachi DuPre - 6'2" - 196 lbs - LSU - Year Rookie
First, Packers like to keep their draft choices - drafted in round 7.  Had 24 starts in college for 57 receptions - 1016 yards & 11 TD's. is supposed to be a precise route runner(Aaron will like that) and great leaping ability.  Was high school state champ in three jumps - long, triple & high!

DeAngelo Yancey - 6'1" - 220 lbs - Purdue - Year Rookie
Again, Packers like to keep their draft choices - drafted in round 5. Junior college year - started all 12 games for - 48 receptions - 700 yards & 5 TD's.  Sophomore - started 7 games - 12 receptions & 3 TD's.

If you follow the Packers closely, they usually keep any draft choices the first year.  This being the case, Janis, Allison, & Davis are the BUBBLE guys and Yancey & DuPre have a good shot!

And last, the starters.

Jordy Nelson - 6'3" - 217 lbs. - Kansas State  - Year 10
A fan favorite and MY favorite!  One of those players that grows on you!  Will the beginning of his career nothing special & BAM!  Look closely at career stats:

2008 - 16 games - 33 receptions - 366 yards - 2 TD's
2009 - 13 games - 22 receptions - 320 yards - 0 TD's
2010 - 16 games - 45 receptions - 582 yards - 2 TD's
2011 - 16 games - 68 receptions - 1263 yards - 15 TD's
2012 - 12 games - 49 receptions - 745 yards - 7 TD's
2013 -16 games - 85 receptions - 1314 yards - 8 TD's
2014 - 16 games - 98 receptions - 1519 yards - 13 TD's
2015 - missed entire season - knee injury
2016 - 16 games - 97 receptions - 1257 yards - 14 TD's

How many more years? More I hope & would be VERY NICE to see a BIG season this year!  Does all the right things on & off the field!  Has the total confidence of Aaron.  And a class act!
And yes, in high school, three sports football, Basketball & track & field!  And yes, my favorite - track & field state champ 100, 200, 400 & long jump!  And as a 10 year old the national AAU champ in the 400 meters - WHOA BABY!

Devante Adams - 6'1" - 215 lbs - Fresno State - Year 4
Has show flashes of brilliance, but not for an entire season & has had the injury bug at times.
Carrer stats:

2014 - 16 games - 38 receptions - 446 yards - 3 TD's
2015 - 13 games - 50 receptions - 483 yards - 1 TD
2016 - 16 games - 75 receptions - 997 yards - 12 TD's

Like the trend for the 2016 season, will need that & a little more this year!  Football & Basketball player in high school.  Had a nice career at Fresno State - played just 2 seasons with 233 receptions - 3030 yards & 38 TD's. Ranked first in nation for receptions per game 10 & second in yards per game at 132 yards.  Need a BIG YEAR!

Randall Cobb - 5'10" - 192 lbs. - Ketucky - Year 7
Has had big season, but not lately.  This may be a key year for Cobb.  Has the ability to do a lot of things - catch ball over the middle, from out of the back field & special teams!  Has the ability to make tacklers miss & we need that.

Career Stats
2011 - 13 games - 25 receptions - 375 yards - 1 TD
2012 - 16 games - 80 receptions - 954 yards - 8 TD's
2013 - 6 games - 41 receptions - 1314 yards - 8 TD's
2014 - 16 games - 91 receptions - 1287 yards - 12 TD's
2015 - 16 games - 79 receptions - 829 yards - 6 TD's
