Packers & Lions Defenses, What to Expect?

OK, Packer Fans!  I KNOW, a lot of you would fire our defensive coordinator Coach Capers.  We can talk about that after the season!  And, is it the players that our General Manager, Ted Thompson, gives him?  We will also, discuss that!

First, a look at the starting line-ups for both teams:

The Packers:
Starters
DE - Kenny Clark - R
NT - Letroy Guion - 9
DT - Mike Daniels - 5
LOLB - Nick Perry - 5
ILB - Jake Ryan - 2
ILB - Blake Martinez - R
ROLB - Clay Matthews - 8
LCB - Damarious Randall - 2
RCB - Quinten Rollins - 2
SS - Morgan Burnett - 7
FS - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - 3

Subs - (they play a lot!)
Jayrone Elliot - 3
Kyler Fackrell - R
LaDarius Gunter - 2
Micah Hyde - 4
Datone Jones - 4
Julius Peppers - 15
Joe Thomas - 2

The Lions:
DE - Devon Taylor - 4
DT - Tyrunn Walker - 5
DT - Halotti Ngata - 11
DE - Ezekiel Ansah - 4
OLB - DeAndre Levy - 8
MLB - Tahir Whitehead - 5
OLB - Josh Bynes - 5
CB - Darius Slay - 4
CB - Nevin Lawson - 3
SS - Tavon Wilson - 5
FS - Glover Quin - 8

First, look at the experience, Lions have the advantage here!  The Packers, with Ted Thompson in charge, are always young.  And, I think it shows.

Second, do not know the substitutions of the Lions & how they do it, the Packers substitute a lot!  I personally think it hurts them at times!

And third, and the last few years, ALWAYS, is the health of the teams! Injury Reports:

Packers:

Lions:

Looking at the defense, for the Packers, Jayrone Elliot comes in and provides a spark!  LaDarius Gunter has players well this year, and Coach McCarthy says he has received the top grade at corner!  Julius Peppers STILL makes BIG Plays!  And Joe Thomas plays a lot on passing downs!  And, Damarious Randall plays a lot at corner!  WE NEED THEM ALL!!!!

For the Lions, big player, Darius Slay, the Lions BEST corner, hamstring issues!  Miles Killebrew, back-up safety DeAndre Levy, starting linebacker, a key player.

Looks like both teams need players healthy, usually the case Week 17 in the NFL!

Packers key to the game - cover WR - Tate for the Lions!  And, pressure Stafford!

Lions, NEED their top corner - Slay!  And, press Rodgers!

Here we go!

BEAT THE LIONS!!!!!

Packers - Lions 2017, A Game For All The Marbles!

All NFL eyes are on the Packers-Lions game this Sunday!  It is the ONLY big game!  The AFC teams are picked, just joking for playoff positions.  The AFC teams are:

New England
Oakland
Pittsburgh
Houston
Kansas City
Miami

The NFC is another story:

Dallas - they are in and the top seed
Atlanta - they are in and clinched their division
Seattle - they are in and clinched their division
New York Giants -they are a wildcard

And Washington could get in.  And of course, Packers & Lions!  Winner is in!  Loser??????

Time to look at the match ups!

Quarterback - Rodgers vs Stafford
Great match up!  Historically - Rodgers!  Having a good year with something to prove?  Stafford!
Of course, my vote - Packers-Rodgers!!!!!

Running Backs - Both teams have had injuries & have NO clear cut stud!  As of now"
Packers - Montgomery, Michael, & Starks
Lions - Roddick, Washington, Zenner
This is a BIG question mark!!!  Both still have injuries, Packers & Starks, Lions & Riddick!  Both
have had unknowns that have looked good, Packer & Montgomery & Lions & Zenner.
My vote - EVEN

Wide Receivers - This to me is the key to the game!
Packers - Nelson, Adams, Cobb, Allison, Janis, & Davis
Lions - Tate, Jones, Boldin, Roberts, Jones
Both teams are dangerous.  The Lions, Tate just keeps making plays.  Boldin is the old Vet!  Marvin Jones makes plays.  The Packers?  We all know Jordy is back!  Adams?  We want the good one to show up!  Cobb, injuries have slowed him up.  The new weapon may be Allison, sorry Janis fans!
The Packer Buddy Vote goes to - Packers!

Tight End?  Another key!
Lions - Ebron, Harbor & Mulligan
Packers - Cook & Rodgers
The Lions Ebron I think is the key to the Lions offense!  Cook & Rodgers, just keep the middle
of the field honest!
My vote - EVEN!

Offensive line?  Will not bother with names.  Both teams have been good, but I give the edge to
the..........................  Packers!!!

So far - Packers 3 - Lions 0 - Even 2

Next blog entry - Defense!

Is Aaron Rodgers a Profit, a Quarterback, or Both?

Is Aaron Rodgers a Profit, a Quarterback, or Both?

There was the famous Aaron Rodgers R-E-L-A-X.

And after a slow start, the team rebounded to make the playoffs!

This year, 5 weeks ago, the Packers were 4 win & 6 loses, and Aaron Rodgers says, "I think we
can run the table!"

And, the Packers have won 5 in a row!  Can they finish with a win at Detroit?

The Packers will travel to Detroit next week, and a win makes the Packers NFC Division North
Champions!  A loss, and the Packers will need help!  So, let's just win it!

The Lions, played Monday night & lost to the Cowboys.  The Packers, played Saturday, and have 2 days of extra rest - ADVANTAGE PACKERS!

The Lions are at home - ADVANTAGE LIONS!

The Packers are on a roll, win a 5 game win streak!  The Lions are 3 wins & 2 loses, losing the last 2!
ADVANTAGE PACKERS!

The Packers give up 361 yards per game, the Lions 349 yards per game - THAT IS A DRAW!

The Packers give up 22 points per game, the Lions give up 24 yards per game - THAT IS A DRAW!

The Packers average 364 yards per game, the Lions 344 yards per game  - THAT IS A DRAW!

The Packers score 27 points per game, the Lions score 21points per game - ADVANTAGE PACK!

Final Score?

Packers 27

                     Lions 21

Packers vs Vikings, Two Teams Headed Different Directions?

Is there a trend developing at the end of the NFL season for the Packers & Vikings?

The month of December for the Vikings?

December 1 - Cowboys 17 - Vikings 15
December 11 - Vikings 25 - Jaguars 16
December 18 - Colts 34 - Vikings 6

The month of December for the Packers?

December 4 - Packers 21 - Texans 13
December 11 - Packers 38 - Seahawks 10
December 18 - Packers 30 - Bears 27

I see it!  Do you?

Using my theory about the playoffs, if you cannot finish, you do not deserve to be in the playoffs!

And,

1 - Rodgers is being Rodgers
2 - Lately, the Packers are winning the turnover battle
3 - The Packers have discovered a running game

and,

The Packers are at Lambeau, outside in December!

And, the whimpy, indoor Vikings, who play in a dome in Minnesota, are, playing outside in December!

Go!

        Pack!

                   Go!

NFL Schedule Is Set Up For A Great Finish For 2016!

Today is good time to look at the NFL schedule. Good, Bad, and the Ugly!

The GOOD?  Division games at the end of the year!

The BAD?  Playing in London?

The UGLY?  Thursday Night Football?

Just my opinion:

"Greed is NOT a good thing!  Expanding a business CAN be a good thing!  Players & Owners alike, are guilty!  CBS & NBC pay $450 million per year!

Time for the NFL to BE SMART, NOT GREEDY!

Packers Even All Time Series With The Bears!

It has taken over 80 years & the Packers & Bears all time series is tied!

Packers 94 Wins - Bears 94 Wins & 6 ties!

One last look at the game!  And, my look at the drives of each team & turnovers! (You know I love to look at the drives!  Many people look at yards, time of possession, etc)

Packers 11 drives
6 - Scores - 3 TD's & 3 FG's
4 - Punts - 3 - 3 & outs! (Hate 3 and out!)  Especially in the 4th Quarter!
1 - Downs

Bears 11 drives
5 - Scores - 3 TD's & 2 FG's
2 - Punts
4 - Turnovers - 3 interceptions & 1 fumble

The Packers have changed the turnover scene the last two games!  That ALWAYS helps achieve a
win!  The Packers still will have a streak of 3 & outs! And in the 4th quarter, that allows teams to
make a comeback!

What this team has become is dangerous.  They are dangerous to other teams.  Rodgers is Rodgers and can make plays other QB's cannot!  New weapons are taking shape, Montgomery at RB, Cook at TE, Adams is becoming a playmaker at WR, Jordy is back at WR.  The O-line is taking shape.  And on defense, slowly the players are getting healthy!  The young ILB's, Martinez & Ryan are getting back on the field!  The young cornerbacks are healthy - Rollins & Randall.  Matthews is fighting that shoulder injury & seems to be better!

What will the next two weeks bring?  Let's focus first on the .........................................

Vikings!

Three Games To Go In 2016 - Next Up The Bears!

Packers vs Bears 2017!  What does my gut tell me?

1 - Cold Weather - low score?

That is cold, apparently one of the coldest in NFL history!  Whoa!!!  Baby!!!

2 - Injuries!
Packers - Rodgers limping & Cutler - OUT
Packers - Injury Report 16 players - Bears - Injury Report 8 players

3 - Motivation
Packers - playing for their playoff lives!
Bears - playing for pride!

4 - Coaches
Packers - McCarthy - has been to the playoffs 7 straight years Record 111-61-1
Bears - Fox - has been around the NFL a long time & has seen it all!  Record 128-109-0

5 - And, the most important - MY GUT!  The Pack will not lose this game!

Final Score
Packers 24
Bears 13

It's The Packers vs Bears, Records, Players, & Playoffs Do Not Matter!

The oldest NFL football rivalry!

Chicago 94 wins
Green Bay 93 wins
And 6 ties!

The game has been played since November 27, 1921!  Bears won that game 20-0.

Here is the records for each decade!
1920's - Bears 7-6-3
1930's - Bears 12-11-1
1940's - Bears 16-4-1
1950's - Bears 14-5-1
1960's - Green Bay 15-5-0
1970's - Bears 11-9-0
1980's - Bears 11-7-0
1990's - Packers 13-7-0
2000's - Packers 12-8-0
2010's - Packers 11-3-0

Bears came out pdf the gate the first 40 years fast!  Then Vince shows up!  Then the Walter Peyton days and now Favre & Rodgers have led the way!

Packers NEED to win this game to even the series!

Packers NEED to win this game to keep close to the Vikings & Lions!

Packers NEED to win this game to make the playoffs!

Packers NEED to win this GAME!!

WOW! WOW! DOUBLE WOW! - Packers Send Seahawks "Packing!"

Packers Defense!  Whoa!  Still playing with a very few linebackers & injured!  Matthews, still not 100%.  Our rookie, Martinez, is out for his third straight week.  Rookie Fackrell still out.  Defensive backs are getting healthy, although our best Shields is out for the season!  But, what I saw was a pass rush!  Seattle's QB, Wilson, was squeezed in the pocket and forced to through, and the Pack came up BIG with 5 interceptions & a fumble recovery!  Only giving up 10 points!!!!

Offense, 38 points!  Here are the drives, 14 & 2 do not count - kneel downs for end of half & game!
Rodgers - 18 for 23 & 246 yards & 3 TD's
Jordy - 2 TD's & Adams - 4 receptions & 104 yards & 1 TD

12 Drives:
6 - scores - 5 TD's & 1 FG
1 - missed FG
4 -Punts
1 - On downs

So, against that aggressive & intimidating Seahawks D, VERY GOOD!

The typical chippy & dirty Seattle style of play - the Packers gave it right back!  A GOOD SIGN!

No matter what happens the rest of the year!  This game is one to remember!  Not many teams
spank the Seahawks like this!!!

Next up, Da Bears!

Packers 2016 - Injuries, Injuries, and a Few More Injuries!

I went back over the Injury Reports for 2016 games!  Here is the Raw Data:

A few numbers:

35 players on the injury report so far (Still have 5 more games)
 8 Hamstrings
 3 Concussions
 3 Groins
 7 Knees
 4 Ankles
 3 Shoulders

The injuries that concern me the most?  Hamstrings & Groins!  These are usually, NONE CONTACT injuries & the speed guys, receivers & d-backs suffer the most!  Weight training, stretching routine, game delays, timeouts, & practice & game schedules!  SOME IS NOT RIGHT!

Whatever the issue, injuries seem to hurt the Pack ever year!

What do you think?

Why Do We Play The Game?

Thirty-two teams start the NFL season for one reason & one reason only - A Super Bowl Win!

So, where are we as of November 29, 2016?

NFC North Division Standings
Detroit 7-4
Minnesota 6-5
Green Bay 5-6
Chicago 2-9

Division Leaders
NFC East - Dallas 10-1
NFC North - Detroit 7-4
NFC South - Atlanta 7-4
NFC West - Seattle 7-3-1

Wild Card Leaders
New York Giants 7-4
Washington - 6-4-1
Tampa Bay 6-5
Minnesota 6-5
New Orleans  5-6
Green Bay 5-6
Philadelphia 5-6

The task at hand - simple WIN!

Packer Drives
1 - TD (10 plays - 75 yards)
2 - TD (9 plays - 75 yards)
3 - Punt (12 plays - 43 yards)
4 - End of Half (1 play - kneel down)
5 - FG  (5 plays - 57 yards)
6 - TD (13 plays - 58 yards)
7 - FG (17 plays - 82 yards)
8 - End of Game (2 plays - kneel down)

Eagle Drives
1 - TD (11 plays - 81 yards)
2 - Punt (6 plays - 36 yards)
3 - FG (13 plays - 64 yards)
4 - Interception (7 plays - 25 yards)
5 - FG (11 plays - 43 yards)
6 - Punt (7 plays - 24 yards)
7 - Downs (5 plays - 19 yards)

Packers offense was "spot on!"  Long drives, and finishing with points!

Eagles - one turnover, two punts.

Defense, played well enough to win.  They played well AT THE END of the game!  They MUST
get healthy for the Packers to have a chance!

So, next up?  The Texans!

Go Pack Go!

What Do You Say To A Team That Is 4 Wins, 6 Losses & 6 To Play?

Simple!  Here are some things I would say:

"We have 6 more games this season, a lot of you are playing for your job"

or to our defense........

"The last 4 games we have given up 33 points, 31 points, 47 points, & 42 points.  That WILL
STOP this week!"

or to our offense........

"We will NOT be conservative!  This week is a playoff game!"

or to Clay Matthews.........

"Either stick your hair under your helmet or cut it.  It's time to be a football player"

or to Ha Ha Clinton Dix(2014), Datone Jones(2013), Nick Perry(2012), Bryna Bulaga(2011).....

"Ha Ha, Datone, Nick, & Bryan you are ALL #1 draft picks, PLAY LOKE IT!

or to our Packer Fans........

"We apologize for the past 4 weeks, this week will be different!"

and, Aaron Rodgers.........

"Aaron, I do not care what is happening in your family life, the Packer Family NEEDS you,
lead this team to victory!"

Pride

Effort

Attack

Or as Vince would say: "Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing."

Packers Eagles - What To Watch?

First, the 1st Quarter!

Body Language?

Effort??

Wouldn't it be nice to see the offense come out "smoking!"  The Eagle defense is playing well this year:

Eagles - 8th in yards per game - 334.6 yards
Eagles - 4th in points per game - 18.6 point/game

It is a defense run by coordinator Jim Schwartz!  Ex-Lions head coach!  He knows the Packers!  He knows Mike McCarthy!  He know Aaron Rodgers!  Will be TOUGH to beat!

On offense, the Offensive Coordinator is Frank Reich!

Frank Reich, is from MY old high school - Cedar Crest High School - Lebanon, PA!

Love this part of the BIO!
A native of Freeport, NY, Reich attended Cedar Crest H.S. in Lebanon, PA. He played collegiately at the University of Maryland from 1981-84 where he backed up Boomer Esiason before earning the starting job as a senior in 1984. As a senior, Reich rallied the Terrapins from a 31-0 deficit to defeat the Miami Hurricanes, 42-40. At the time, Maryland’s victory over Miami marked the greatest comeback win in college football history and is now only second to Michigan State’s 2006 35-point comeback over Northwestern.

And......
While Reich was rarely pressed into action during his nine years backing up Kelly, the former signal caller was called upon in the 1992 playoffs after Kelly sprained his right knee in the regular-season finale and was forced to sit out the first two rounds. Despite having only attempted one pass in a postseason game prior to the 1992 season, Reich made his first postseason start in the 1992 Wild Card round and engineered the greatest comeback in NFL history. With the Bills trailing the Houston Oilers by 32 points early in the third quarter, Reich orchestrated five second-half touchdown drives, four of which were capped by touchdown passes, and led a game-winning field goal drive in overtime to defeat Houston 41-38

The best part!  Big comeback wins!!

The Packer Defense - OUR defensive coordinator, Dom Capers, is coaching for his job!  What a pathetic year.  I know we have injuries, but, C'mon Man!

Can we stop a rookie QB, with average receivers & banged up running backs?  Time will tell!

Time To Focus On The Future Of The Packers

Another Loss.  Another game where the Packers Defense was terrible.  Another game when the offense was OK, but not enough.  Another game where this fan question the leadership from Mark Murphy, to Ted Thompson, to Mike McCarthy.

The game? Redskins 42 - Packers 24.  42 points, unacceptable.

Capers Defenses the past few years gives up BIG numbers!  Example:

Running back - Kelley - 24 attempts - 137 yards - 3 TD's!  Who the heck is Kelley?
Wide Receivers - Garcon - 6 receptions - 116 yards - 1 TD
& Crowder 3 receptions - 102 yards - 1 TD
Quarterback - Cousins 20 for 31 - 375 yards & 3 TD's  WOW!

Clay Matthews - 1 tackle - 0 Sacks

McCarthy's Offense - Another slow start - 1st quarter:
3 Drives
Drive #1 - 3 & out - yards gained 0! Punt
Drive #2 - 3 & out - yards gained 2! Punt
Drive #3 - 3 & out - yards gained 7! Punt

That is 9 yards for Quarter 1?  WOW!

Aaron Rodgers - 26 for 41 for 351 yards & 3 TD's

My first recommendation for 2017 - Rodgers in & Matthews out.

More to come!

What Will The Packers Do This Week?

When a team struggles, watch the body language.  When a team has a losing streak, how do they respond?  What to expect this week against the Redskins?

First, look at last year?  January 10, 2016
Packers 35 - Redkins 18

Packers, Rodgers 21 for 36 for 210 yards - 2 TD's and 0 interceptions
Redskins, Cousins 29 for 46 for 329 yards - 1 TD and 0 interceptions

Packers, Lacy 12 attempts 63 yards - 1 TD & Starks 12 attempts 53 yards - 1 TD
Redskins, Morris 11 attempts for 50 yards - 0 TD & Thompson a attempt for 25 yards - 0 TD

Packers, Jones 7 receptions for 81 yards - 0 TD & 4 receptions for 48 yards - 1 TD
Redskins, Reed 9 receptions for 120 yards - 1 TD & Thompson 8 receptions for 89 yards - 0 TD

So, this year, the Redskins are playing well & Packers, not so much!

What MUST happen?

On defense, WOW!  Hold the Redskins under 24 points?  NO BIG plays.  Cover DeSean Jackson & keep running backs Kelley & Thompson under 100 yards total!  Biggest concern, tight end Jordan Reed - he hurt us last year!  Play a great 4th QUARTER!

On offense, BE AGGRESSIVE EARLY!  Pass first & run second!  I REPEAT!  PASS FIRST & RUN SECOND!!!  Jared Cook COULD be back!  If so, let's see Cook at 8 receptions - 80 yards - 1 TD!
Starks back at running back 15 carries 80 yards & MORE important 5 receptions for 60 yards!

Special teams!  NO long runs  by Redskins & NO fumbles by Packers!!!!!!

One Last Look At Titans Game (This Is All I Can Take)

I always analyze the Drive Charts & The Drive Charts for the Titans game was very hard to stomach, in fact I needed to take my stomach medicine!

Titan Drives:
1- TD
2- TD
3- TD
End Quarter 1

4- TD
5- Punt
6- TD
7- Downs
End 1st Half

8- Punt
9- TD
End Quarter 3

10- Punt
11- FG
12- FG
13- Punt
14- End of Game

Packer Drives:
1- Punt
2- Punt
3- Punt
4- TD
5- FG
6- TD
7- Interception
8- TD
9- FG
10- Downs
11- Interception
12- Punt
13- Downs

So, Titans first 4 drives - TD & Packers first 3 Punts?  Could you begin a game any better -as far as the Titans?  NO! Basically, the Packers were smacked down right out of the locker room!  In fact, the Titans first play, a 75 yard TD run - you kidding me!  Unacceptable!

I do not care what the coaches say, the players say, YOU JUST HAD YOUR BUTTS KICKED!

And, the trend is downward!

Last three games?
Falcons 33 Packers 32
Colts 31 Packers 26
Titans 47 Packers 25

Trend?

Monday, November 14, 2016

Answer To My Last Blog Entry - No, But Maybe

Most years, at 4 wins & 5 loses, the Packers would be outside looking in!  Now, here is the Standings in the NFC North:

Detroit          5-4
Minnesota    5-4
Green Bay    4-5
Chicago        2-7

One game out of first place!

Remaining Games?

@ Redskins
@ Eagles
Texans
Seahawks
@ Bears
Vikings
@ Lions

If you go on how these teams are playing, the Packers end up  5 Wins & 11 Loses

So, what must happen?

Get healthy - starters

RB - Eddie Lacy - out for the year
G - TJ Lang - ?????
T - David Bahktiari - ?????
C - JC Tretter - ?????
TE - Jared Cook - ?????
LB - Clay Matthews - ?????
CB - Sam Shields - probably done for year
CB - Damarious Randall - ?????
ILB - Jake Ryan - ?????

If you are counting, that is 9 starters out of 22!  Plus many subs are hurting!

Can the defense stop any body?

Can the offense forget the run and just past first, run second!

Right now, if I were a betting man, and what I have seen so far, the Packers are NOT
a playoff team.  May be approaching that time to see what other players can do?

Next up, Washington Redskins.

Packer vs Titans, Can The Packers Make a Run?

Here we go Packer Fans!  Do you sense the urgency?  Do you see that look in the players eyes!  Do the coaches seem fired up.  Will the Packers win a game on the road?  Will we have a healthy running back?  Will Aaron Rodgers display a fire and lead the team for an offensive explosion?

Well, my gut says NO!  Hope I'm wrong!

Why so pessimistic?  The past year & a half!

One player, Mike Daniels, seems to be the only player truly "pissed"!

We need a few more "pissed off" players!

To win:

1 - Packers D must stop the run
2 - Packers D contain Mariota!
3 - Score 30 points
4 - NO TURNOVERS

We do this &

Packers 31 - Titans 24

Thursday, November 10, 2016

Can The Packers Improve, Next Up The Titans

At 4 wins & 4 losses, the Packers are an average football team.  Why is that?

Injuries

Inconsistent Offense

Bad Defense

And, sprinkle in some Special Teams issues?

Offense vs the Titans?

Total defense the Titans are ranked 16th.  Passing defense 20th. Rushing defense 10th.

Since we have NO running backs, PASS AARON PASS!  Montgomery is doing an adequate job, and we continue to tryout running backs! (How did we get here!)  And KEY - Red Zone Offense!  Here is where McCarthy may lose his job!  His creativity on offense inside the 20 is terrible!  Crossing patterns, pick plays, back shoulder fade patterns(where has this been?)  We need a BIG game from Aaron!

Titans Offense vs Packer Defense

Titans total offense is ranked 8th(Pack is 16th), Passing Offense 22nd & Rushing Offense 3rd!  144 yards per game!  Packer Rush Defense is still ranked #1!  BUT   BUT, remember the Cowboy game?
Demarco Murray ranked 2nd in the league with 807 yards!  MUST BE STOPPED!

And Special Teams?  NO MORE LONG RUN BACKS!  When you use your young guys as starters, and move new guys from the practice squad into special teams - BAD things happen!

The Pack NEEDS a win, in fact 2-3 in a row would be nice!  Only one game out in the NFC North!  If, this season is to be saved, MUST start this weekend!

Go Pack Go!

Back From Golf Vacation & Same Old Packers

OK.  I'm "Packered Out"!  We are half way threw the season 4 Wins - 4 Losses.

We are an average football team!  That promise early in the year is fading, fast!

What has happened?

Problem One - Injuries!

Amazing!  Starters?

CB - Same Shield
CB - Damarious Randall
LB - Clay Matthews
TE - Jared Cook
RB - Eddie Lacy
C - Corey Lindsley

Problem Two - Defense

Over the past few years, when the Packers need a stop, it does not happen.  Especially, at
the end of the game!  The big high draft choices - Datone Jones & Nick Perry, average at best.
Pass russ?  Below average at best.  A championship defense? Average at best.

Problem Three - Offense

Aaron has shown signs of waking up.  At times, the receivers look good.  Running backs - all injured!
That is the starter, the back-up, & the back-up to the back-up!  Offensive line has been steady.  Tight End, Jared Cook, one game!   Offense, missing the run game, trying to tread water!

Problem Four - Coaching

Just one time, what Coach McCarthy show some emotion!  He just seems to analytical!  He just seems to be too accepting of states quo.  And, the staff, maybe we have lost some good ones?

Problem Five - General Manager

Ted, retire.  We need a fresh look at personnel!  And, I'm tired of his press conferences!  Ho-Hom!

Do I seem frustrated!  Yes!  Do I seem upset?  I am!  Can the Packers turn it around?

Time Will Tell!

Go Pack Go!

Last Look At the Packers-Falcons Match-Up

My last look before my 11 of my retired buddies head to North Carolina for our week of golf and a week away from blogging!  A week away from politics!!  A week away!  So, let's dedicate the game breakdown the way we look at a game of golf!

Game plan from the tee box!

Packers Offense - attack the middle of the fair way!  No turnovers! (NO lost balls!)  And, on occasion, rip that driver for distance! (Packers, throw deep to Nelson or Davis, or Janis!)

Atlanta Offense - Take away the Falcons favorite receiver (you know who!) - that means take the driver out of the Falcons bag & hide it!

Game plan hitting the greens in regulation!

Packers offense - sustain drives.  Over the past few weeks, we have seen some great, long drives!  First downs & 3rd down conversions! (Greens in regulation!)  Continue to use your most consistent clubs - Montgomery, Adams, & Cobb.  Mix in the Long irons, Nelson, Janis & Davis!

Atlanta Offense - Our defense needs to take away the football.  The Falcons are down a running back(Coleman), but we are down 3!  Our young d-backs need to play with reckless abandon!  Go for it! Make the Falcons play from the ruff & a few sand traps!

On the Putting Green (Inside the 20 - Red Zone)

Packers Offense - No short field goals - TD's!  Make sure that putter is sharp - NO THREE PUTTS!

Atlanta Offense - A casual sneeze, while the Falcons or putting, or a cough?  Remind the Falcons how FAST the greens are!

The Packers?  How will the young players do?  Running Backs & Cornerbacks?    Away game?  Winning on the road is difficult!  But, to be a play off team - you MUST win on the road!  Aaron Rodgers, start the push to demonstrate that YOU are the BEST quarterback in the NFL!!!!!

Outcome?  Another high score?  Say,.................................

Packers 38 - Falcons 31

Packers Travel To Atlanta To Take On The Falcons

Packers and Falcons 2016.

All I can say - "COVER JULIO JONES!!!!!"

Remember 2014?

Julio Jones 11 receptions and 259 yards and 1 TD!

One game - 259 yards!  Are you kidding me!

Someone, anyone, cover Julio Jones!!!!!!

Last Look At Packers - Bears Game

Here we go again, a look at the Drive Chart

Packer Drives - 10
1- End of Game
5 - Scores - 3 TD's & 2 FG's
1 - Missed FG
1 - Turnover - Fumble
1 - Downs
1 - Punt

Bear Drives - 9
1 - Score - FG
5 - Punts
2 - Turnovers - 2 Interceptions
1 - End of Half

The score should not have been close in the first half!  Red Zone offense!  And, it was the
Bears, 2nd & 3rd QB.  The Packers did show creativity - FINALLY!  The McCarthy offense
MUST be creative the rest of the year!  So, Montgomery - Check!  Adams - Check!  Will Cook be back at TE?  Need this check.  Will Jordy be Jordy?  Need a check!  Will the d-backs get healthy? NEED a BIG check!  Hang on for the ride!

PackerBuddies Return With Another Win!

So far this year, 2 Wins & 0 Losses! The PackerBuddies are rolling!

First, taking off from Baltimore, our gate welcomed a plane load of veterans!  The firetrucks were on the runway & under the water was a rainbow!  VERY fitting, for these American Hero's!

With a new traveler, Dave, our first stop............... of course the Hobo Restaurant!

Next stop?  The Packer Hall of Fame!!!!!

Getting to sit, where Vince Lombardi sat.......................... PRICELESS!!!

The Players in the Packer Hall of Fame are each remembered by a football!

And of course, the game!  Phil, Paul(Phil's brother), Dave(my "old" neighbor) & Me!

And of course our VICTORY TURTLE, paid for by my PACKER WALLET!!!

Go PACK Go!

Last Look At Packers-Cowboys Game

Before we move on to the Bears, one last look at the loss on Sunday.

1 - Home loss, NOT GOOD

2 - Aaron Rodgers, NOT GOOD

3 - Packer run defense, against Cowboys run offense, NOT GOOD

4 - Packer Injuries, NOT GOOD

5 - Two games behind Vikings, NOT GOOD!

So, I always look at the possessions of the game:

Packers (11 possessions)
1 - End of half
4 - Scores = 1 TD & 3 Field Goals, red zone offense, NOT GOOD
1 - Punt?
4 - Turnovers - 3 fumbles & 1 interception, WOW - NOT GOOD
1 - Downs at Cowboy 38 yard line

OK, Packer fans, look at that!  Now, do you wonder HOW we lost?

That is bad football!

Cowboys (11 possessions)
1 - End of Game
6 - Scores = 3 TD's & 3 FG
2 - Turnovers 1 - 1 fumble & 1 interception
2 - Punts

Cowboys earned the win!

Two suggestions

1 - NO MORE TURNOVERS, or just win the turnover battle
2 - Red Zone offense - "C'mon Man!"

Packers - Cowboys, What To Expect?

This Packer team is very hard to like, but they win, that I like!  So, trying to be realistic, what does this Sunday look like?

Packers Offense vs Dallas Defense?

The Packers are hurting at running back.  Every time I do this blog the past few years, the Packers seem to be hurting somewhere!  Lacy banged up.  Starks banged up.  By the way, third stringer Crockett, still on the IR!  Next up?  Don Jackson.  Don Jackson, is NOT on the 53 man roster.  Don Jackson is on the practice squad!  Welcome to the NFL Don Jackson!  So, Lacy & Starks are listed as questionable.  I would label our running attack this week - QUESTIONABLE!

The Packer passing attack?  Cook is still out, wouldn't it be nice to see what this off season pick up can do with Rodgers?  Will not see that for a few more games!  Nelson-Cobb's-Adams.  Wouldn't it be nice to see a 400 yard passing game from Rodgers?  And the other 4 receivers we have, Montgomery, Janis, Abbrederis, & Davis, will any help this year?  I would label the passing game this week - QUESTIONABLE!

The Packers Defense vs the Dallas Offense?

Packer running defense ranked 1st, yes I said first!  And the Dallas running offense is ranked #1 in the NFL with rookie Elliot & back-up Morris(and I like Morris).    What will give?  I would label the outcome Sunday as - QUESTIONABLE (Are you getting the theme?)

The Packers pass defense vs the Cowboys pass offense.  Rookie Cowboy QB - Prescott playing very well.  Des Bryant is, you GUESSED it, QUESTIONABLE for the game!  And, the Packers are still down Shields, our starter and most experienced defender, and Randall, the other starter is, YES, you GUESSED it, QUESTIONABLE!  So, everybody, together, the Packer pass defense vs the Cowboy Pass offense will be,....................................................  QUESTIONABLE!

And for fun, the Packer new punter, Schum, has been........................................  QUESTIONABLE!

And, as we have demonstrated, the outcome for Sunday's game is.................................

QUESTIONABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Packers vs Cowboys, Focus on the Running Game!

Something has to give!  I know it is earlier, BUT, the Packers #1 Run Defense against the Cowboys #1 Run Offense!

The Packers give up 42.8 yards per game!

The Cowboys run for 155.2 yards per game!

So, what to expect?  The Cowboys offensive line has been one of the best, the last few
years.  The Packer defensive line, not so much.

The Packers get DT - Pennel back this week, but will he play?  And rookies Lowry & Clark, Mike Daniels, & Leroy Guion are playing great!  Inside linebackers Martinez. Thomas & Ryan are flying around!  And outside linebackers Matthews, Peppers, Perry, & Jones are controlling the perimeter!

The Cowboys running back, rookie Elliot, has been explosive!  546 yards at 5.0 per attempt!  That is 109 yards a game & 5 TD's!  STOP ELLIOT!

So, first key to the game - the running game!  By the way, the Packers running backs, Lacy & Starks are banged up!  Uh Oh!

Packers vs Giants, Game Keys!

Here we go!  In the NFL EVERY week is a must win!  With the schedule, the draft choices, the salary cap, the injuries, and players being unpredictable, how do you predict a game?

Well, once you get by all the junk, it is still X's & O's, so, here we go!

1 - The Giants wide receivers against the banged up Packers defensive backs!  You have the drama of the Giants Odell Beckham!  Wow!  This guy is the definition of DRAMA!  He is still dangerous, along with Cruz & Shepard!  Randall, is questionable & Shields is out!  What started as a strength this year, has turned into Uh-Oh!  The key, pressure Eli! We need at least 3-4 sacks, and many hurries!

2 - Rodgers!  We need a COMPLETE game from our QB.  And Mike McCarthy to let Aaron play!  So, how about 400 yards passing & 4 TD passes!

3 - Turnovers!  Protect the football!

4 - Home Field!  Protect our home field!

So, my prediction?

Packers 38 - Giants 28

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Packer vs Giants, A Must Win

There are several things goods teams do in the NFL.

1 - Protect your home field.  The Packers usually do this, in 2015, they struggled.  The Pack lost at home to ALL their division opponents Lions, Bears & Vikings!

2 - Win games you SHOULD win!  The Packers SHOULD BEAT the Giants!

3 - Play good defense - last game, 5 starters did not play!  Who will play this week?  Key to this week, Packers young defensive backs against the Giants wide receivers!

4 - Do not turn the ball over!  Aaron!  Let Aaron be Aaron!  (This is for Coach Mike!)

5 - Win the special teams battle!  LOVE to see a special teams TD!

This week, a Sunday Night game, another prime time game!

More break down to come & keep an eye on the injury list!

A Last Look At The Packers - Lions Game

As I said earlier, the Packer Buddies attended the game this week and that gives you another perspective that television and media cannot give you. Some feelings:

1 - The Packers offense can be dangerous.  But, Mike McCarthy can slow it down!  The difference between the first half and second half was amazing!  I still think, the Pack needs to be Pass 1st, and Run 2nd.  When teams play the Pack, the first thought has to be Aaron Rodgers.  Take him away on first & second down is NOT SMART!  Jordy is back, Eddie is back, Cook is hurt, Cobb looked average, Davis dropped an easy one, Montgomery was invisible, Stark was not used much, Abbrederis was he even there?  So, the offense is back, but it seems the only way to stop it is Mike McCarthy!

2 - The Packers defense was adequate.  The D was VERY fortunate in the first half!  A fumble take away, a missed field goal, and making the Lions earn the yards(except for the big play by Lions wide receiver Jones).  Five starters out!  The BIG NEED is pass rush and the PUSH!  Missing Datone Jones & Leroy Guion was BIG!  Matthews, Shields & Burnett was BIG! IF, and I say IF, the Packers get healthy & stay healthy, the defense will be fine!  And maybe even GOOD!

3 - Packers Fans CAN boo!  McCarthy playing calling, brought out some BOO's!  You can milk the clock with a short passing game!  A completion allows the clock to move!  Will be interesting to see what the play calling will be for the next 13 games!

A drive chart:

The Packers 10 drives?

2 - End of half & End of game
6 - scores - 4 TD's & 2 FG's
2 - Punts

So, throw out the 2 end of half & game, that is 8 drives, and. the Pack scored on 6 of the first!!  That is good, in fact, that is VERY GOOD!  The last 2, ended in punts!  Overall, a great day for the offense!

The Lions 9 drives?

5 - scores, 4 TD's & 1 FG
1 - missed FG
2 - punts
1 - interception

The score at the end of the half was a gift!  The young DB, just made a mistake that a high school kid should NEVER make!  It seems, with all the injuries, and young players, Capers played a conservative game, trying to protect the young players.  It worked, but was CLOSE!  Most teams in the NFL would struggle playing defense with 5 starters out!  The Packers struggled!

Packer Buddies Back From A Successful Trip From Lambeau!

What makes a successful trip to Lambeau Field?

1 - A win of course!  Packers 34 - Lions 27

Now, a sign of maturity!  A fan, a mature fan, a fan that has seen many football games, MUST learn to cope with the fact, that, he or she, had NO control over the outcome of the game!  So, what OTHER ways, will a successful trip to see our beloved Packers be obtained?

2 - A safe trip!  Travel from Lancaster, PA to Baltimore by car.  Fly from Baltimore to Milwaukee.  Drive from Milwaukee to Green Bay.  Attend the game & return the same way!  CHECK!

3 - Enjoy the time in Green Bay!  Eating at local restaurants?  The Bay Restaurant in Green Bay, the Hobo in Belgium, and the Lighthouse in Two Rivers.  A river cruise on the Fox River.    CHECK!

4 - Discover new things to do & meet new people!  On the flights, waiting at airports, eating at restaurants, attending the game, & other activities allow the Packer Buddies to do all of these!  On the river cruise we met a music teacher & his wife!  On the flight, a lady bought Phil & I a Barley & Coffee.  At the game we met a family from Nebraska!  CHECK!

But, do not get me wrong, IT IS STILL NICE TO WIN!!!

GO! PACK! GO!

A Few More Comments About the Vikings Game

The more I thought about the Packer & Vikings game, the more my "inner coach" was ticked off!

First, the Viking QB was there for two weeks & he BEAT Rodgers, who has been there, went through summer camp. and NEEDS to get the trust in his receivers!  So, what would my speech top Rodgers be?

"Aaron, STOP making this rocket science!  Drop back & pass the football!  Did Sam Bradford have time to gain the trust in his receivers?  Did Sam Bradford have a lot of time to get the timing down?  Did Sam Bradford have the time to get to know the entire Vikings offense?  Aaron, the ANSWER IS NO!!!  So, STOP over thinking this game!  Go, out & throw the football!  Have fun!  R-E-L-A-X!"

And to Mike McCarthy?

"Mike, you have been in Green Bay over ten years!  PLEASE, change things up!  STOP worrying about installs & X'x & O's!  Let you players play!  Play the young guys Abbrederis & Janis & Montgomery!  Get a back in the backfield that can go the distance!  Show a little more emotion on the sideline - GET PISSED!"

OK, I'm officially finished with the Vikings, on to Detroit!  And, the first HOME GAME!

And, the Packer Buddies will be there!!!!

Monday, September 19, 2016

Uh! Oh! What Was That! Vikings 17 - Packers 14

There are time, under the McCarthy lead Packers, where watching the game is VERY difficult!

Reason #1 - Is it me, or do certain receivers have career nights against the Pack?

Last night - Vikings receiver - Stefan Diggs - 9 receptions - 182 yards - 1 TD
(Does our defensive coordinator see this?

Reason #2 - Our MVP quarterback looks VERY average!

Last night - Aaron Rodgers - 20 for 36 - 213 yards - interception
(He has some great moments, but many average moments)

Reason #3 - Mike McCarthy - has the league figured him out?

Do the plays look the same?
Do you see creativity?
When interviewed, does he see VERY defensive?

And Reason #4 - Injuries?  Other teams have them, but we seem to have a lot!

So, I guess we need to R-E-L-A-X and remember it is a long season & we have been in the playoffs for 7 straight years!  BUT, a Super Bowl would be nice!

Sunday, September 18, 2016

2015 Game Two - Minnesota Vikings

OK Packer fans, as someone famous once said, "You never stay the same, your team is getting better, or getting worse."

What to watch?

1 - Packer Offense:  Jared Cook, it is your time to show up!  Protection for Aaron?  Watch our new guard - Lane Taylor ^ our new fullback, Ripkowki.  We need at least 3 TD passes!  And by the way Mr. Eddie Lacy, 100 yards and a TD would be sweet!  31 points!

2 - Packer Defense:  Missing Sam Shields, down to 3 corners!  Stay healthy!  Rollins & Randall, year 2, it is up to you!  Young inside linebackers, Martinez & Ryan, baptism by fire!  Need Peppers & Matthews to play BIG!  Hold Peterson under 100 yards & the Vikings under 20 points.  17 will work!

3 - Special teams - win the battle!  Field position!  A TD would be nice!!!

Final score - Packers 31 & Vikings 17

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

So, What Do We Take From Packers Game #1 - Packers 27 - Jacksonville 23

The 2016 NFL season is officially underway!  What do we take from this game?

1 - A Victory!  The MOST important thing in the NFL is not style points, time of possession, yards, touchdowns, or quarterback sacks, it is winning!  And the Packers are 1-0!

2 - A ROAD victory is even better!

3 - I know it is dangerous & injuries happen, but I still think the Packer starters should play more minutes in the pre-season.

4 - Packer Offense  Here are the Packer Drives:

Drive 1 - 7 Plays - TD
Drive 2 - 3 & out - Punt
Drive 3 - 3 & out - Punt
Drive 4 - 3 & out - Punt
Drive 5 - 9 Plays - TD
Drive 6 - 6 Plays - TD
   Halftime
Drive 7 - 14 Plays - FG
Drive 8 - 19 Plays - FG
Drive 9 - 3 Plays - Punt
Drive 10 - End of Game

Really, 9 drives - 3 TD's, 2 FG's, 4 Punts.  Trouble is drives 2-4, that is three 3 & outs in a row!  The other drives, very efficient!  Especially, Drive #8, only ended up in 3 points, but did chew up most of the second half!  And, NO turnovers!

5 - Packer Defense.  Here are the Jaguar Drives:

Drive 1 - 5 Plays & Interception
Drive 2 - 9 Plays - Punt
Drive 3 - 3 Plays TD
Drive 4 - 13 Plays FG
Drive 5 - 7 Plays - TD
Drive 6 - 1 Play - End of Half
   Halftime
Drive 7 - 10 Plays - FG
Drive 8 - 15 Plays - FG
Drive 9 - 12 Plays - Downs

Interception was big on the first drive!  Holding a team to FG's is always good, Jags had 3! We gave up some big plays, BUT remember, the Jaguars led the NFL in plays over 20 yards last year!

So, what other things did we learn?

Aaron Rodgers is still Aaron Rodgers, that is GOOD!

We did not miss Josh Sitton. (Not yet)

We gave up one sack, and that was an Aaron scramble & he was tackled for 0 gain.

Rollins had a difficult game at corner, BUT made that BIG Play at the end of the game!

Our new punter did well! 4 Punts for 42.5 yards per punt.  I returned for 14 yards.

Lacy 14 carries - 61 yards.  An average start.

Jordy 6 receptions - & a TD!

Packers 3 sacks ^ The "Clay"maker had one!  (But, Peppers was invisible!)

Next up - The VIKINGS, in their NEW HOUSE!  Ohhhhhhh Baby!

Packers 53 For 2016

Here it is!

A few surprises!

1 - Josh Sitton cut!  I think this is more about NEXT year and salary cap.  Remember, Bakhtiari, Lang, & Tretter are all free agents.  They may not even sign these guys!  And, some people have said Sitton has lost a little?  No matter what, who ever fills in, maybe Lane Taylor, NEEDS to protect Aaron, & open holes for Eddie!

2 - Three QB's?  Looks like our QB from Division III Wesley impressed!  And, the Pack was probably afraid to cut & try to bring him back on the practice squad!

3 - NO long snapper!  I say this EVERY year - we have these STUD athletes, can any learn to LONG SNAP!!!  Apparently not!  Brett Goode, after last years energy is headed back, that means, someone on the 53 needs to go!

4 - We keep only 3 inside linebackers!  AND, cut Barrington & Bradford!  Looks like Barrington never came back from last years injury.  And, Bradford, who had a good summer, was NOT good enough!!

5 - Where are we deep in talent  - defensive back & wide receiver

6 - Where are we short in talent - inside linebacker & defensive tackle

DO NOT BE SURPRISED if more moves are coming - Long snapper Brett Goode is coming.  Teams are cutting & some talent may be moving to Green Bay!

Otherwise, LET'S PLAY SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!

Just in - Practice Squad:

  1. ILB Carl Bradford
  2. G Lucas Patrick
  3. LB Reggie Gilbert
  4. G Blake Muir
  5. NT Brian Price
  6. WR Geronimo Allison
  7. WR Devon Cajuste
  8. WR Herb Waters
  9. CB Jermaine Whitehead
  10. LB Beniquez Brown

Who Will Make The Packer Roster At Safety?

The last position - Safety:

The players:

Morgan Burnett
Ha Ha Clinton-Dixx
Micah Hyde
Chris Banjo
Kentrell Brice
Marwin Evans
Jermaine Whitehead

Starters - Morgan Burnett & Ha Ha Clinton-Dixx are entering their third year together & should be one of the better pair in the league.  Micah Hyde, does a little of everything in the secondary.  And Chris Banjo has played a lot in 2015 & is a special teams warrior.  Those 4 should be safe!

Now, of Brice, Evans, & Whitehead, who may stick?  The name that comes up is Kentrell Brice. The rookie from Louisiana Tech has a shot!

So, I'm ready to pick my final 53 - the only change will be - Lerentee McCray, traded to Buffalo.

OFFENSE(24)
QB(2) - Aaron Rodgers & Brett Hundley
FB(1) - Aaron Ripkowski
RB(3) - Eddie Lacy, James Starks & Brandon Burks - (Josh Crockett on IR)
TE(3) - Jared Cook, Richard Rodgers, and Justin Perillo - (Kennard Backman& Henry Mitchell on IR)
WR(6) - Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davonte Adams, Jared Abbrederis, Ty Montgomery, Trevor Davis
OL(9) - David Bahktiari, Brian Bulaga, Josh Sitton, TJ Lang, Corey Lindsley, JC Tretter
Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy, & Lane Taylor (Jacob Flores & Josh Walker on IR)

SPECIAL TEAMS(3)
Kicker(1) - Mason Crosby
Long Snapper(1) - Rick Lovato
Punter (1)- Jacob Schum (this was easy, Tim Masthay was let go!)

DEFENSE(26)
DL(6) - Mike Daniels, Leroy Guion, Kenny Clark, Mike Pennel(is suspended for 4 games), Datone Jones, Dean Lowry, & Chris Ringo (NOT counting Pennel, because suspended)
ILB(4): Sam Barrington, Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez, and Carl Bradford
OLB(6) - Matthews, Peppers, Jones, Perry, Elliot, & Mackrell
Cornerbacks(5) - Sam Shields, Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, La Darius Gunter, Demetri Goodson.
Safety(5) - Morgan Burnett, Ha Ha Clinton-Dixx, Micah Hyde, Chris Banjo, & Kentrell Brice

There are my 53.

My biggest issue is WR - will the Pack keep Jeff Janis?  Geronimo Allison had a great summer!  They could keep one less OL, and keep an extra WR.  All depends on who they keep on the practice squad (ten players), when players are cut, other teams may pick them up!  Who am I worried about?  QB - Joe Callahan and WR - Geronimo Allison.

Dates:

• Sept. 3 (Saturday): Roster must be trimmed from 75 players to 53 by 4 p.m.
• Sept. 4 (Sunday): Practice squad of 10 players can be established.

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

Down To 75, Packer Roster Taking Shape!

We are down to 75, next stop 53 roster & 10 practice squad players.

Next group to examine - Packer Cornerbacks!

Sam Shields
Damarious Randall
Quinton Rollins
LaDarius Gunter
Robertson Daniel
Demetria Goodson
Josh Hawkins
Warren Gatewood
Makinton Dorleant

I always believed a defense is built with defensive line first, then, cornerbacks.  Ted Thompson has stumbled drafting defensive line, but has a good history with corners!

I see three no brainers - Shields, Randall, & Rollins.  Remember, Randall & Rollins are only in year two, but, look like good ones!  Athletic, quick, ball hawks, should be interesting what year two will bring these players?  Shields, on the of NFL's best cover guys!

The next 2-3 will be interesting, Gunter & Goodson have some game time & special teams experience!  They seem to be safe.  the next 4, Daniel, Hawkins, Gatgewood & Dorleant need to be special team animals!

Cornerbacks(5) - Shields, Randall, Rollins, Gunter, Goodson.

Next up, safeties!

Saturday, August 27, 2016

Outside Linebackers - Lot of Talent Here!

The Packers, with Matthews moving back to the outside, have a lot of talent out here!  Plus, in typical Dom Capers style, more players are looking to play that "Elephant" position!

Outside Linebackers
Clay Matthews - year 8 - USC - 6'3 - 255
Julius Peppers - year 15 - N. Carolina - 6'7 - 287
Nick Perry - year 5 - USC - 6'3 - 265
Datone Jones - year 4 - UCLA - 6'4 - 285
Jayrone Elliot - year 3 - Toledo - 6'3 - 255
Kyle Fackrell - year Rookie - Utah State - 6'5 - 245
Reggie Gilbert - year Rookie - Arizona - 6'3 - 261
Lerentee McCray - year 4 - Florida - 6'2 - 246

One thing about this group - ATHLETIC!

Second thing, some NEED to reach the potential - Perry & Jones

Third thing, some experimental work - McCray & Elliot

And, the young guys - rookies - Fackrell & Gilbert

Starters Matthews & Peppers.  Matthews, is in his prime & back home at outside linebacker.  I still think Capers with use Matthews as a wild card & he will line up all over!  Peppers, the young players still say he kicks their butts & is a physical freak.  Early in the year, the Packers will watch their time on the field.  BUT, these two players, SHOULD make some big plays & lead this defense!

Perry & Jones!  These two, #1 picks, NEED to show this year they are NFL TOP players!  So far, we have seen flashes!  When Matthews & Peppers are out of the game, Perry & Jones need to show the defense does not drop off, AND, they need to be playmakers!!!

Rookies Fackrell & Gilbert?  Gilbert, an un-drafted free agent, will have trouble making the team.  Fackrell, drafted, will make it!  And at 6'5 - 245 could be a new weapon.  Looks athletic, has speed, has range & could be helped by watching Matthews & Peppers!  Watch him closely!!

Elliot, was a long shot a couple years ago & has helped on special teams & on special defensive packages!  But, he MUST show something!

An interesting pick up was Lerentee McCray, formally with Denver.  Playing in that great Broncos defense as a back up, will that help the Packers?  We need to watch him closely!!

So, making the team?

OLB(7) - Matthews, Peppers, Jones, Perry, Elliot, McCray & Fackrell

We have:
My 53 man Packer roster:
OFFENSE(24)
QB(2) - Aaron Rodgers & Brett Hundley
FB(1) - Aaron Ripkowski
RB(3) - Eddie Lacy, James Starks & Josh Crockett
TE(3) - Jared Cook, Richard Rodgers, and Justin Perillo
WR(6) - Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davonte Adams, Jared Abbrederis, Ty Montgomery, Trevor Davis
OL(9) - David Bahktiari, Brian Bulaga, Josh Sitton, TJ Lang, Corey Lindsley, JC Tretter
Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy, & Lane Taylor

SPECIAL TEAMS(3)
Kicker(1) - Mason Crosby
Long Snapper(1) - Rick Lovato
Punter (1)- Tim Masthay

DEFENSE(13 - so far)
DL(6) - Mike Daniels, Leroy Guion, Kenny Clark, Mike Pennel(is suspended for 4 games), Datone Jones, Dean Lowry, & Chris Ringo (NOT counting Pennel, because suspended)
Inside Linebackers(4): Sam Barrington, Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez, and Carl Bradford
OLB(7) - Matthews, Peppers, Jones, Perry, Elliot, McCray & Mackrell

Next up corners & safeties!

Breaking Down the Packer Roster by Position
