Here we go! Pads are on! At least for one day! First, a little old school! I think the collective bargaining has made the new players soft! Not that they are not real men! Not that the do not hit hard! Not that they are less of a man! BUT, I think a lot of the injury problems are not wearing pads enough!
An article I found in the NY Times that discusses the new practice rules:
Players Like Camp Restrictions, The Rules are Growing on Coaches
The new collective bargaining agreement winnowed camp down further. It forbade teams to make players report before 15 days before the first preseason game. No on-field work was allowed on the first day of camp, and no contact was permitted during the second and third days. Players were finally allowed to wear pads on the fourth day, but the grueling two-a-days that are part of football lore have all but disappeared.
That is VERY different from years ago. So, what does this mean? Mandatory days off(THAT MEANS NO MEETINGS) They are off! Less Pad work - that means not a lot of hitting! And usually one practice a day!(BOY! I WISH I HAD THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL!)
Back to practice! Check out what McCarthy has to say!:
Day #3 - Coach McCarthy Press Conference
If you follow the Pack, and listen to coach, he never gets too high or low! Just a normal day on the practice field - a few people that may have started to make people notice - linebacker - Sam Barrington, wide receiver - Davante Adams, and of course one old timer - Julius Peppers!
Come on first game!!!
