This summer the players being to digest the playbook. Coaches start to get to know the new players & compare them to the vets. below is my present roster:
Light Green (draftees not signed)
Light Blue (Free Agent not signed)
So, what do the numbers say?
Offense 43 players
Defense - 41 players
Special Teams - 4 players
Two draftees not signed - Ty Montgomery & Damarious Randall
And Two Unsigned Free Agents - Matt Flynn & Jarrett Bush
So, where do we start? Let's begin with the easy one - 4 special team players.
Long Snapper - Brett Goode
Place Kicker - Mason Crosby
Punter - Tim Masthay
Punter - Cody Mandell
Long Snapper - Brett Goode
No competition here! This is year 8 for Goode and has been very dependable. I still think it is crazy
to have a roster spot wasted on a player that snaps the football! Since all teams do it, I guess we will
stick with Brett! Snap On!
Place Kicker - Mason Crosby
This will be year 9 for Crosby. Looks like the Pack will not bring in any completion for Crosby this
year. Mason did have a respectable year last year -
Field Goals - 27 of 33 kicks - that ranked 23rd among kickers (top was Vinatieri 96.8%)
Field Goals over 50 yards - 4 of 7
Extra Points 53 of 55 (THAT ranks last!)
Kickoffs 56 kickoffs - 41 touchbacks
So, not bad, not great.
Punters
Tim Masthay
Cody Mandell
Mastery needs to step it up!
Ranked 28th in Net - 38.6 yards (best was Saints punter 44.7 yards)
Inside the 20 - LAST - 14 (best was Arizona 35)
What is deceiving is the Packers had the fewest punts - 49!!!! (Oakland had 109)
So, Aaron moves the ball and we do not punt a lot!! THAT IS GOOD!
Coach McCarthy is focusing on special teams, let's see what happens!!!
